Well, we will see. Although Gemany is not doing so hot at the moment,
every time I compare the Euro against the USD, it seems the USD
is worth less. I think that the EU will in time replace the US as
predominant. May take another 50 years or so, but the foundation
is much, much better and I don't realluy see the US standing a chance.

Hi Arno, but be aware the EURO has nothing to do with Germany but
only with the European community. And Poland joint this too.

All kidding aside, it's an apples-to-oranges comparison: The US is a
country, Europe is a continent. With the EU being a conglomeration of
many significant (and far older) nations, it should already be
preeminent, no?

Hi John, what about US = "United states"?
This is also a conglomeration of different state laws and so on!
You established this first but now Europe will follow.

Well, it is a new type of beast. No real precedent in histroy.
The closest would be the US, but the states there are not
different in the way the EU states are.

Hello, Arno:

Exactly! A USE ("United States of Europe") wouldn't be as feasible as
the USA, due to inherent language barriers.

Hello, Folkert:

Note that Google profiling doesn't make use of the nyms but just the
sender address that goes with that partiular nym at that particular time.

I noticed. Rod, for instance, started using a different e-mail address,
in February of '06. (Mine has always been the same, for 10+ years.)
My fault. Google is broken:
Results 1 - 10 of *1,550* from Jan 1, 2004 to Dec 31, 2004 for author:ron author:reaugh

But at the 11th page:
Results 101 - 107 of *107* from Jan 1, 2004 to Dec 31, 2004 for author:ron author:reaugh (0.25 second

Yeah, Google does have a few quirks. It also seems that some
of its offerings never leave the "beta" stage (e.g., Froogle
Similar with Rod. Probably from a crosspost from some aus. group.
Rod 'as always' doing his worst. It was several months to a year later
that he showed up full force in csiphs.

Really? Rod's profile (under his older "Yahoo" address) indicates
his earliest "csiphs" posts were in January, 2000; that's not "several
months to a year later" than 8-96, is it?
Which is where Ron's interest was at that time (and mine).

Do I take it you're truly a "SCSI man," at heart, then? ;-)

And the stupid approach to voting systems most EU countrys have too.

Many of them cant even manage a viable national govt for a full year etc.

Hi John, why should I?
If You have anything to tell then do so. But only reflect what
You are referring to. And not old stuff I's complaining about.

Hello, Horst:

There are 50 US "states," but they're united by a common language
and ruled by a federal government; hardly comparable to the European
situation.

Besides, nearly all of South America is Spanish-speaking, but nobody
ever speaks of establishing a USSA ("United States of South America").
This should be enough evidence that countries invariably pursue their
own individual (and self-serving), national goals...and to hell with
everyone else!

Reality can be brutal, Horst. :-)

Hi John, not really true (as I see it).
The US are a "melting pot of nations" with very many different slangs
(derived from the many various nations integrated and the indian folks).
But even then Your're not able to ever pronounce pure English ;-)
This again looks to me as a result of the "melting pot" of nations.
Without this You would have spoken "pure" English or French.

In Europe we have English and French as the most speaken languages.
But even if I remember US history right then there were only a few
percents difference and Your language would have been German ;-)

Please wait for a while. This is forthcoming.
Spanish and Portuguese are on top.

Wrong! We are sitting in a global world and every one needs every
others assistence. The time of US leadership has gone.
Please take care of China, Japan and European evolvements.

Never heard of this. And thus old: 1999!

So what. I prefer this older version. It still has a decade or more
of active development in it. This is typical Unix software and
was good a long time ago.

The current version is 1.8.3 from April 25th, 2006.
Tin is based on tass, which in turn is based on notesfiles,
which in turn is a clone of PLATO Notes, which was written in
1982.

Curiously enough I have never been able to find that particular post back.

How much time have you spent in America?

You seem to have a somewhat distorted view of this country. It's
totally and completely unlike the EU in its federation, which is good
news for us, IMO. The EU is a relatively new version of
confederation. I'm not aware of any comparable precedent.
In Europe we have English and French as the most speaken languages.

Heh! And how much time have you spent in South America? You don't

Africa will unite under one government! Heck, why don't we just have
the UN run everything?
Wrong! We are sitting in a global world and every one needs every

Umm, yeah. The Chinese are waiting for America or Europe or anyone
else to take care of their "evolvement".

Just like the Germans are taking care of the French, putting French
needs over their own...

<edited, for brevity>

Hello, Rod:

Why, I'll have you know, that I'm at the very head of the "All time top
posters" list, in <g> Here's the
info, copied and pasted from Google Groups:

535 (e-mail address removed)
342 (e-mail address removed)
275 (e-mail address removed)
257 (e-mail address removed)
225 (e-mail address removed)
207 (e-mail address removed)
198 (e-mail address removed)
198 (e-mail address removed)
194 (e-mail address removed)
175 (e-mail address removed)

Not bad, eh? My lead is even larger than it looks, at first glance, as
the others all had lots of their articles cancelled, or they'd used the
"X-No-Archive" option (or both).

Ron Reaugh's case is typical. He's credited with 207 messages, but when
I click on his name, only 84 show up.

Incidentally, the CD-ROM group was pretty active, during my time there
(1998 & '99); since then, it's slowed to a crawl.

Do you think that's mostly because Usenet, in general, has declined? Or,
is there more to it, such as the ascendancy of DVD?

Further, the computer-oriented "forsale" NG's are practically dead.
I'd made some good deals (both buying and selling), in a few of them,
before joining eBay, in July of 2001.

Then, again, I'd surmise that eBay, itself, is the main reason for their
demise. :-J
