Unsent messages in outbox

We often need entire error messages to offer much help. If you need to ask
again, click on the error message and try to copy all of it to your next
message.

However, that message suggests you have used POP3 as a server name,
which is invalid, instead of as a protocol, for which it is valid. In that
case
ask your email provider for their instructions for setting up to use their
email servers, which should include the correct server names. Many
people choose their internet providers as their email providers also,
since most internet accounts include one or more email accounts. If
they haven't written instructions for Windows Mail yet, their instructions
for Outlook Express should also work under Windows Mail if they
don't call for the HTTP protocol. The instructions are usually somewhere
on their web site. Or, you could tell us who your email provider is and
see if anyone here already knows where to find the instructions.

Hello all -

I'm having the same problem trying to send outbound mail when connecting to
AOL on port 25. Additionally , I am running Norrton AV and Internet
Security. Is there a fix for this?

Below is an error message I just received:

"The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Re: This Week in
Wolfgang's Vault - Janis Joplin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, 10,000 Maniacs, Lou Reed',
Account: 'imap.aol.com', Server: 'smtp.aol.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E"

Thanks for your help -

Gary,

Thanks very much - I changed the port to 587 and the outbound messages are
now being sent.

We often need to see the whole error message to offer much help. Click on
it
and copy all of it to your next message.

Also, try to move the messages that stay in the Outbox for an unreasonable
time to the Drafts folder or delete them. Let us know if any refuse to do
either.

Most likely you have specified an incorrect mail server name
when you set up that account. Right-click on that error message,
copy, then paste the whole thing into a reply here. After
analyzing the error message, we should be able to tell you exactly
what is wrong and how to fix it.

Your summary of the error message sounds like you have selected POP3
as a server name, for which it is invalid, instead of as a protocol, for
which
it is valid. If so, ask your email provider for their instructions for
setting
up to use their email servers. Many people choose their internet providers
as their email providers also, since most internet accounts include one or
more email accounts. If they haven't written instructions for Windows
Mail yet, their instructions for Outlook Express should also work under
Windows Mail if they don't call for the HTTP protocol. The instructions
are probably somewhere on their web site. Or, you could tell us who your
email provider is and see if anyone here already knows where to find their
instructions.

However, you summary suggests that you have entered POP3 as a server

Note - the messages already in your Outbox are likely to be set up
incorrectly, so try moving them to your Drafts folder or deleting them.

Also, check if all the messages in your Outbox are viewable and messages
you sent, instead of error messages about not being able to read the
message. Let us know if there are problems viewing any message.

Unclear error messages in Windows Mail are often due to interference
from an antivirus program, antispyware program, or antispam program.
What if any such programs do you have?

Also, the details of what you need to do often depend on which email
provider you want to use, so which one is it? Many users choose to
use their internet providers as their email providers also, since most
internet accounts include one or more email accounts.
