Always fancied Sandie Shaw, hot totty from Dagenham, though my peers never could understand my POV. She was a better singer than often perceived, having to live down 'Puppet On A String', she made some good recordings, including a cover of Led Zep's 'Your Time Is Gonna Come'.
Ah, Iron Maiden, a staple at most of the clubs and pubs where I played records. The early band with Paul Dianno on vocals played one of our local pubs, The Saxon (now a Lidls) a few times, I remember them being full of energy.
Bassist Steve Harris used to regularly attend a pub named The Green Gate at Gants Hill I played at and we'd talk about music. Very down to earth nice geezer.
From that association I found myself booked to play the sounds at the end of one of Iron Maiden's tours. They played Hammersmith Odeon then from midnight to 4am I played music for them at a pub in Hammersmith's King Street (which at the time, trivia fans, was a Gay pub and is now a lap dancing club) and there were many people from the band member's families there, an interesting occasion for which they paid well.
I like Iron Maiden, especially the first three albums.
Last album I played, last night, was the Golden Hour Of The Kinks. They were (are?) a good band
