sounds like your bio.....

Yes there is. And it's something technically inclined grown-ups understand.
Maybe, if it weren't for the applications barrier to entry

No such animal.
and network effects.

Mindlessly silly.

The real problem is that linux is WAY inferior as a personal desktop OS.

It remains to be seen if it will ever be able to do more than play catchup there.

Its been hilarious watching the desktop get closer to Win every day.
The reason Linux isn't more than it is on the desktop
is because there's no money to be made.

Wrong. The real reason is that the desktop is STILL grossly
deficient so only the rabid bigots even bother with it.
Writing applications for a platform no one buys is a waste of time.

Have fun explaining the apps that are available.
People like JAD who are unable to understand the
problem are part of the very reason the problem exists.

Pathetic, really.

You wouldnt know what a libertarian view
was if it bit you on your lard arse, child.

Just another of your pathetic little drug crazed fantasys/lies, child.

I have never ever said anything even remotely resembling anything like that.

Never ever could bullshit your way out of a wet paper

It's "you're", troll.

Spelling and grammar corrections ALWAYS further conversations in a computer
NG.

Searching for paper clips to restart a Mac.
As Windows gained popularity,
programmers write for Windows because they make money per number of
programs sold. Consumers bought Windows because programmers wrote
for Windows. Consumers and programmers were sucked into Windows. Now
Windows massive installed base forces programmers to write for
Windows and consumers to buy Windows.

Windows gained popularity due to the fact it was a good o/s. Much like gas
engines were better then cranking a car. Now I do agree that Windows might
not have been the best, but Betamax lost out too even if it was superior to
VHS. Do you heat you house with a wood fire? No, but it worked for
thousands of years.
The problem with allowing the operating system maker to write
applications is because it cheats.

If they can do it better, faster, and less bloated...HANG THEM!!! I am
missing the problem here. (yeah, antitrust whatever. 'I Just installed a
new o/s let me go find a calculator program, a fax program, an internet
reader, a text editor, plus another 50 programs. Sounds like a good
plan...)'

I hear Goodyear is suing Honda because my car came with tires. The apps
that come with Windows are basic (other then IE) if you want a better
program to do graphics then paint, you will most likely buy the bloody
thing. My car coming with a AM/FM stereo does not stop be from upgrading to
a CD player.
The real question is "Where would we be without Microsoft being
allowed to write applications?"

About 12 days behind schedule due to everyone trying to find cheap/free ways
to do even the most basic things other then booting the PC.
Speaking of idiots.

"4 out of 4 Americans think the other 3 are idiots."

The one MS operates under within every single first world country.

Then you should know by now that OEM XP can not be transeferred to a new PC
according to the EULA. OEM stays with the PC it was bought with, that's why
Micorosft says to stick the product ID to the outside of the case.
Numbnuts.

That aint the law, that is just what MS claims.
OEM stays with the PC it was bought with,

It doesnt only come with a complete PC either.

Pity about when there is no case, ****wit.

Rod Speed's argument is just as lively when he is clearly
proven wrong.
Apparently Microsft lays down the law and not the courts.

That's what they want you to think, and apparently they have
succeeded to some extent. My favorite legal fallacy is writing on
the package of software that says:

"By opening this software you agree to the enclosed terms."

If you think about it, it's silly. Unless it's written in a law
somewhere, there is nothing about opening the package that means you
agree to the enclosed terms. You can open the software package
without agreeing to anything, without agreeing to agree.

:D

Searching for paper clips to restart a Mac.

Now I do agree that Windows might not have been the best,

Intelligent, educated, computer savvy people already clearly
understand the issues.
I am missing the problem here. (yeah, antitrust whatever. 'I Just
installed a new o/s let me go find a calculator program, a fax
program, an internet reader, a text editor, plus another 50
programs. Sounds like a good plan...)'

Since you're a programmer, I guess you are playing dumb. Difficult
to imagine you are genuinely clueless about personal computing. As
it is today, the software would be preinstalled by OEMs, it just
wouldn't be written by Microsoft. The rest of us would have no
difficulty downloading or otherwise acquiring utility packs (like
when we buy the operating system).
I hear Goodyear is suing Honda because my car came with tires.

A good analogy would be to the entity that makes roads. You wouldn't
want the public works department that makes your roads to own
everything you can drive to.

Microsoft would ask "Where do you want to go today?" Then, on your
way Microsoft would use roadblocks and detours most effectively for
getting you to where Microsoft wants you to go today. All for your
own good of course.

I hardly try to correct this troll's spelling or grammar,
that would be a full-time job.

That's another thing I've wondered about. If you click yes, is that
