Did you ever get a response to your question here?
I have exactly the same problem in Vista64, and it is making Windows Mail a
real nightmare to use, since I need to check Email every few minutes and then
I have to click on 2 separate dialogs to continue to check mail. Sending mail
anytime requires the same gymnastics.

Hi Gary,
I am hoping you can help me. I am running Vista and I tried to do a
"backup" copy of my email messages today so I followed the export
instructions but than I founf out that this created a problem with being able
to open attachments. I kept getting the command failed to execute message.
So I decided to import all of my messages back in but now all of those
messages and the openable attachments are duplicated in my inbox like any
other folder. Can you help me undo my original export and just get it back
to normal?

Thank you,
Erik

That page offers two download options. Unless you know for sure
you have 64-bit Vista, use the 32-bit option.

I don't understand what exporting a backup of your emails has to do
with being able to open attachments. I don't see any connection.

The most common cause of failure to open attachments is installing
IE8. The best workaround for that is to uninstall IE8.

It is not surprising that you have duplicate copies if you re-imported
your backup. Sorry, I don't know of any easy way to eliminate the
duplicates except to delete them individually.

Hi, Gary...

I have the same problem and I apologize if you have answered this, but it is
hard to follow some of these threads!

Stuck in Outbox, said one or more messages in your otbox do not have a valid
account specified. Would you like...etc. I did download the appropriate
file. It did say it doesn't work for my system. Apparently I already have
Service Pack 1 for my Vista system already on the computer.

So that is a problem that I can't solve.

Also another problem: I usually use yahoo.com as my email. I get to it
online. I foolishly found the Windows Mail and started playing with it and
when I set it up it took all of the mail that was in my Inbox off of the
yahoo website. I went in and try to change the email to one of my alternate
emails thinking that it wouldn't receive emails for my main E address. Well
the user name and password are the same for both so that didn't work. And
now I can't get mail out of my Outbox and I can't get my yahoo.com site to
accept the emails anymore. I have SO SCREWED UP! Can you help me?

THANKS!!

If there is an accumulation of messages in the Outbox folder, open
the Outbox folder. Move as many of those messages as you can to
the Drafts folder. You can also try dragging them to the Deleted Items
folder. If any message can't be moved or deleted,
try running the various repair functions in the WMUtil program:
http://www.oehelp.com/WMUtil

If no improvement, upgrade to Windows Live Mail:
http://download.live.com/wlmail

It isn't clear to me what you mean by "I can't get my yahoo.com site to
accept the emails anymore." Do you mean that Yahoo emails
downloaded in Windows Mail are removed from the Yahoo server?
If so, you can change that default in Windows Mail: go to Tools,
Accounts, select your Yahoo mail account, Properties, Advanced,
select "Leave a copy of messages on server."

Gary - I was talking about the .dll file in WMUtil. But I did get it open
when I clicked on the other file included in the zip file. So I have done
that (thanks)

You were right - I did mean that Yahoo emails were no longer showing up
there when they went to Windows Mail. Thanks so much for that fix. I did
change the Properties to leaving a copy on the server so now I can get those.

GUESS WHAT I FIGURED OUT WHAT TO DO WHEN The messages in my Outbox won't
send and here are the two messages I receive when trying to send:

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'yoohoo', Account:
'pop.mail.yahoo.com', Server: 'smtp.mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port:
25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Account: 'pop.mail.yahoo.com', Server: 'pop.mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: POP3,
Server Response: '-ERR popgate unknown command', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

I needed to change the Ports to (outgoing) 995 & 465 like on the Yahoo
account & click that it does need a secure setting for both in and outgoing.
(aren't you proud of me for figuring that out? ;-)

There is one question I can't figure out the answer to. There are 1000
messages in my Window Mail that were taken off the Yahoo server and I would
like them to go back. Is there anyway to do that as a group? I tried the
export button and it made an .iaf file, but that I think that only exported a
list of files not the emails themselves.

Thanks so much for your input...

You are a life saver, you know?

-R

Thanks Gary! I've been looking for a solution for MONTHS!! Yours was the
only actual post that worked. Thank you so much for sharing!

:

Try Microsoft's fix:

"Messages may be stuck in the Outbox when you use Windows Mail on a
computer that is running Windows Vista"

That page offers two download options. Unless you know for sure
you have 64-bit Vista, use the 32-bit option.

Answered in your thread "Emails stuck in outbox.."

Please restrict posting to one thread per issue.

I started this thread about two years ago and have since solved the
problem...somewhat. I set up a gmail account just for this and use that as
my smtp for outgoing mail. My regular ISP is my incoming account. For the
most part I have had no trouble. Occasionally I see things getting stuck,
but that may be more a function of my computer itself, which is six years
old.

Because the outgoing emails are coming from gmail, they will stay in the
sent box in gmail, as well as in my Outlook sent box. I go in every now and
then and clean out the gmail outbox, since I already have them saved in
outlook.

THANKS!!

Hi Gary....I have a problem where I have a message in my Draft File that is
highlighted in red (apparently a suspected problem noted by Norton
Anti-virus) and whenever I open my Draft File, my Windows Mail stops working
and usually restarts. I would like to delete the file but cannot because the
program stops as soon as I open the Draft File.

I tried the download suggested for my 32 bit Vista and was told that it was
"inappropriate"....I assume that perhaps the program is already there but not
sure.

Is this different from the problem with the Outbox issues that people are
talking about. Any help is appreciated.

That issue is not related to the 'message stuck in Outbox' problem.
Your basic problem is that you're allowing Norton antivirus to
interact with your email program. That's a big no-no, see

http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus should be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

If turning off the email scanning function does not resolve your problem,
do a trial uninstall of your antivirus. If no improvement, you can
always reinstall it. Instead of uninstalling your antivirus, consider
upgrading to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to
suffering bad effects from overly aggressive antivirus programs.

Open WM then on the file menu, select work offline.

On the view menu select Layout>and disable preview pane.

Go to the Drafts folder and delete the message.

Any message that is in your Drafts Folder, you put it there!
