hey. i bought a pc from mesh last month totalling £730. i had an issue with random reboots which i had to solve through forums and NOT MESH TECHNICAL SUPPORT. However, they were very helpful as they sent me the drivers i needed after reinstalling windows. Now, I have corrected the problem, the pc is working fine.
Note: When it comes to technical issues NONE OF THE INTERNET RETAILERS will be experts as they don;t hire qualified professionals. Also, when phoning MESH use the alternate number to save a pound a minute.
I would recommend mesh for the pc but when it comes to technical issues and u r nt a technical expert urself ur best getting an onsite warranty. i regret nt gettin it. However, mesh aint all bad well hw it is portrayed on this site definately.
compared to other retailers ur paying a good price and ur under warranty.

GooD LucK

Hi there, I am glad you managed to get your problems sorted:thumb:. MESH do not have any obligation to come out to fix ur PC, this is evident if you read their terms and conditions of their onsite warranty so BE GRATEFULL you didnt waste your money on it! MESH can quite simply say to you that they are unsure of the problem so it will have to be RTB to be diagnosed and you will have no choice but to do what they say, trust me.

MESH did this to me personally under the prentense that my system had to be upgraded, then they tried to sell me the parts that were faulty, and i know i am not alone in this as a lot of people have been stung with the £65 carriage and inspection charge, for a fault that was later diagnosed and repaired by mesh themselves and they have still refused to refund the £65 even after ADMITTING there was a fault that they missed!!!!! That kind of behaviour is completely unreasonable.

Like i said before you only get what you pay for, otherwise we would all be singing MESH praises rather then dedicating time to warning potential buyers of the risks of dealing with this company.

standards dropped

8 years ago Mesh drivers for pc's came on a cd-rom disc.
They had an 0181 tech support line.
Oh how things have changed & standards dropped!

Now the customer is told to back up the drivers folder themselves & tech support is at 60p per minute!!

I believe some years ago Mesh were an excellent company in all respects, but as you say "how things have changed". According to an article in "The Register" from December 2000 .......

"MESH Computer is to open a 40,000sqft production facility near Edinburgh, in 2001. This will quadruple production capacity from 250 build to order machines a day to 1,000 machines a day. The system builder is also opening five new showrooms next year, with Birmingham and Bristol 'opening soon'."

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2000/12/05/tiny_computers_acquisition_target/
Below the article on Tiny.

I can find no evidence that this production facility or any of the showrooms are still open and The Companies House Website information on Mesh states "There are no branches associated with this company".

http://wck2.companieshouse.gov.uk/77a1693f4fce94631a5d8755c218159f/compdetails
If this link does not work, you can search for Mesh from here .......
http://www.companieshouse.gov.uk/index.shtml

The Companies House Website information on Mesh also says that, after over twelve years, they ceased to be a Public Limited Company (PLC) on 8th, April 2005. Perhaps Mesh have problems and this is why "standards have dropped". Certainly my experience of Mesh Customer Service was that it was both incompetent and disreputable. There are also many posts describing the failings of Mesh Technical Support. It seems that the only remaining reason to consider buying from this once excellent company is that they often undercut their competitors on price, but in my humble opinion there are big risks with buying from Mesh

Hi MeshVictim:thumb:
I think that my PC has good parts in it, but was made by the yts chimp on work experience:rolleyes: The main problem is mesh have grown but their tech support has not.

Sadly other forums seem to be more interested in keeping mesh's revenue from advertising more than telling the customers the truth, but thats life. Hey could they bring Thats Life back & Ester could showcase mesh:D

I can tell from your posts that you used to work for murdoch you know ;)

I have made well over a hundred posts about Mesh on several different forums and, amazingly, I have only once received a "reprimand" from a forum editor or moderator. This particular forum editor locked my thread stating "We're not here to host vendettas". However, the identical post on two other forums received no comment whatsoever from their forum editors or moderators

As they say "One man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist ..... especially if another man has a vested interest in the status quo". Similarly, "One forum editor's informative post about a disreputable computer retailer is another forum editor's vendetta ..... especially if another forum editor has a vested interest in concealing the truth about that particular computer retailer"

I will not, of course, be identifying the particular forum concerned, but if you are a regular visitor to computing forums, then I'm sure I don't need to :D

The interesting thing that feckit posted was about the free software number & drivers on a cd. These days companies like Mesh & Others seem to want to get as much money out of the customer they can.

And having you on hold on a 60p a minute help line is one of them:mad:

Back up your drivers yourself

I does seem strange that Mesh make you back up your own drivers to a CD-R or DVD-R. OK it must save them time from doing it, but do others companies do the same?

Yep, quite a few do ... Dell is one.

;)

Dell or Mesh or ???

You have probably read posts by Mesh Zealots saying you will get your dream system from Mesh cheaper than from Dell. To be fair, that is probably true in many cases. The question is why can Mesh undercut Dell on price

Perhaps Mesh are a more efficient company than the UK subsidiary of the giant Dell Inc. of the US ....... well maybe

After my nightmare experience of the incompetent and disreputable Mesh Customer Service, I believe Mesh can undercut Dell on price because there is very little in the price of a Mesh computer to cover Customer Service
nod.gif

Mesh Technical Support attracts much criticism too, there is the length of time waiting on the phone to get through to Mesh and the cost of these calls
nod.gif

Not to mention the calibre of Customer Service or Technical Support staff you eventually get through to
wallbash.gif

I do not know that much about computers, so when people post about Mesh and drivers, I think of the pleasant Amtrak driver who came to my home four times delivering and collecting my faulty Mesh computer ;)

Over the years he had worked for Amtrak, he had delivered computers for Dell, Mesh, Tiny and Time. Based on his collection of faulty computers, that is also the order he ranked them in, Dell best and Time worst. So I asked whether he had a Dell, the answer was "no", he had bought his system from our excellent local computer shop, although it cost a bit more. He said after the nightmare I had endured with Mesh Customer Service, I should give them a try, so I did, bought from them, and my computer and I have lived together happily ever since :D

Hi every one
I wish I had looked on google before I purchased a mesh.
icon13.gif

Got it back today, second visit in a month. One hard drive replaced on first visit, hard drive and mother board replaced this time.
I will never take it to them again, I just can't stand the "customer service". I had a 0208 number straight into the repair dept and I was in the queue for an hour this morning.
The computer is only 6 months old.

I am sorry to read of your all too common nightmare experience of Mesh Computers :(

There are two types of Mesh Victim, those who get a refund and whose nightmare comes to a certain end and those who get their computer repaired and whose nightmare may recur again and again
nod.gif

It may well be that a refund is your best solution :thumb:

Extracting a refund from Mesh Customer Service is not exactly easy, but it can be done. There is some advice on refunds on this thread .....

Please do post again, as some of the Mesh Victims here may be able to give you some good advice.

mesh, do they really care?

Now dont shout at me but, my mesh pc works well & has good parts in it.
The downside is the crap case, poor customer support, rip off 60p a minute help line and the attitude that mesh are right all the time & the customer is not!

Apart from that everything is fine:rolleyes:

get as much money out of the customer as you can!

Nothing wrong admitting your Mesh pc has good parts in it.
It's just sad that after spending 1.5k & your pc does not work "out of the box" you end up phoning a 60p a minute phoneline to get your pc to work:mad:

Mesh & Others seem to care less about the customer and more on making as much money as possible out of the customer at any cost!

I don't know if this has already been posted (there are so many Mesh threads to sift through!) but I have seen the common complaint that it costs 60p a minute to ring Mesh customer services, which is an 0870 number. There is a site that is not just good to get around Mesh's expensive phone calls, but any company who thinks it's fair to charge a huge amount for their help. The site is SayNoTo0870, hopefully it can save people a few pounds:

Ty for your post :thumb:

Sadly the long expensive wait on the phone trying to get through to Mesh, listening to that ghastly music interrupted by those insincere messages saying "Your call is important to us", is usually only just the beginning of your nightmare dealing with Mesh :(

As you know, as a result of my nightmare experience with Mesh Customer Service
wallbash.gif
I believe that Mesh do not care at all about their customers who have received defective systems :(

However, it seems that Dell Inc. of the US, obviously the parent of Dell Corp. Ltd. of the UK, do recognise the importance of Customer Service .....

"Dell is also spending US$100 million to hire more workers in its sales and call-center facilities."
"The move is part of Dell's $100 million customer-service improvement initiative announced in April."
"Laura Bosworth, Director of Dells web Customer Experience, has announced that they plan to spend $100 million on hiring more geeks."

All three quotes from Dell Inc. press releases.

You might think that a company like Mesh which treats its customers with utter contempt would fail, whereas a company like Dell which seeks to improve customer service would prosper. So, is there any evidence of this

Well, according to Hoovers, their latest sales figures are .....

Mesh Computers .............. £55.8 million.
Dell UK ......................... £101.3 million.

http://www.hoovers.com/mesh-computers/--ID__134157,ticker__--/freeuk-co-fin-factsheet.xhtml

According to an article in The Register in December 2000 …..

“MESH Computer is to open a 40,000sqft production facility near Edinburgh, in 2001. This will quadruple production capacity from 250 build to order machines a day to 1,000 machines a day. The system builder is also opening five new showrooms next year, with Birmingham and Bristol 'opening soon'.”

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2000/12/05/tiny_computers_acquisition_target/

However, according to an article in The Register in May 2002 …..

“MESH is to close its Scottish manufacturing operations, near Edinburgh. All production will now be handled from the company's Oxley, north London headquarters.”

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2002/05/27/mesh_shuts_scottish_pc_manufacturing/http://www.theregister.co.uk/2002/05/27/mesh_shuts_scottish_pc_manufacturing/http://www.theregister.co.uk/2002/05/27/mesh_shuts_scottish_pc_manufacturing/http://www.theregister.co.uk/2002/05/27/mesh_shuts_scottish_pc_manufacturing/

As for the “five new showrooms”, I can find no evidence that any of these exist today.

Perhaps there is a lesson here for Mesh Computers (formerly PLC), they delisted in April 2005 after over twelve years as a PLC, according to the Companies House Website.

http://www.companieshouse.gov.uk/

Perhaps Mesh should remember that …..

The Customer is King !!!!!
