Windows 10 Windows 10 Upgrade Notice

So will your existing Windows Product Key work with it?

Rachel

yep, it's basically an automatic procedure ... pop the burnt DvD into the drive and auto-setup begins ... put the kettle on. :)

ignore anything your system wants to do when it reboots, it will reboot a few times.

Question. My PC has a recovery partition ( hidden ) on it in case I need to go back to factory settings. I assume W10 won't overwrite that ? Would I be wrong or right in my assumption ?

oh, I didn't check if I have/had one on this HP mobile workstation, however, there is a 'roll-back' to your previous OS, in my case it clearly says Windows 7 Pro ... from what I have read online, this actually works as intended.

In any case, you really should take an image of your hard drive just in case the fan hits the proverbial.

This laptop is my test station ... despite my prior feeling, I'm quite warming up to Win 10 ... and I'm really enjoying this HP. :)

I have a lot more exploring still to do, and a good few programs and games to look at.

I did have to go buy a pack of DVDs tho
I'm just installing straight from the app. Can't be arsed burning DvD's. If it goes belly up hopefully the recovery partition is still there. If not I have an image on my DNS 320L

OK I've downloaded the ISO from the link and burned it to DVD. I didn't understand the instruction for using the supplied burner so used my regular software ImgBurn. Probably won't get a chance to try the upgrade until the weekend but I'll try it on my laptop first.

Meh! Going back to W7 until I can purchase a new copy of W7. W10 wouldn't activate with my current product key ( Refurb PC license )

If you use the Media Creation Tool from the link above just choose update, forget making/burning media. Just upgrade, then make a bootable USB drive after if you intend to do a fresh install.

Just remember you must upgrade your current OS before clean installing 10 or it won't activate. ;)

Up and running for a few hours. Like it.

Creative drives non existent (as expected), no surprise there, Thank you Daniel K.

I actually might reinstall Classic Shell again, I'm just too used to the Win 7 Start menu! lol

try ...

"HELP... Windows 10 wont activate i am getting the error 0xC004F034 or Invalid Key / Key blocked

People are reporting that this a load issue on the servers and after trying for a while it does activate. (This has been confirmed now)
Pushing activate repeatedly until it work's seems to work for most people. Be aware it might take something like 20 tries

For key blocked / invalid try restarting the computer a few times. This should resolve it."

I have the same 'problem', it won't activate ... and I assumed it may be due to the DOS the MS brought on themselves ... at any rate, I'm not giving up yet.!

I am not a happy bunny.

Switched on main machine this morning and noticed the Windows 10 banner is no longer in my task bar.

It's gone, vamoosed, disappeared.

It would appear Microsoft don't like me for some reason. Well, that's ok, I'm not much keen on Uncle Microsoft.

My Win 7 Home Premium 64 Bit is proper legal and fully up to date and the only software clash reported was me having to uninstall Acronis True Image 2011 prior to upgrade.

So, I have not a clue why I've been victimised.

I was kinda looking forward to trying Win 10 but it appears I'll be staying with Win 7. So be it.

I will say this, there is no way I will ever, ever, ever pay for a version of Win 10.

The hell with you MicroCrap.

you haven't been victimised ... I'm betting you do not have Windows update to "automatically" download & install ... if you really want to "try" Windows 10, download and use the ISO, it'll also save you some bandwidth.

:p

My copy of Windows 10 Pro is now activated ... all by its self.

now, where the hell is notepad!

The icons gone because Win 10 is now out, no need to reserve (i assume)

As mucks said, upgrade via the Media Creation Tool, so much faster.. :)

I've never had any version of Windows automatically update, I like to see what they're foisting upon me and that would also mean getting the latest version of Internet Explorer and the change there is not always for the better. And yes, I do sometimes use IE.

And I haven't a clue what the Media Creation Tool is, suppose I best use a search engine to find out.

Oh what it is to be an IT Pro eh? And not a lowly pleb such as I.

****ing Microsoft

Alright, alright I've d/l the media creation tool and the Win 10 64 Bit Home version ISO is now downloading.

It says when I do a clean install I use my original Win 7 activation code to activate. Okey dokey, will do.

But.... if it hadn't been for advice from you people I wouldn't have done anything and assumed MS just blew me out.

Pah.

do NOT do a clean install first ... upgrade first ... if, and when you get "registered", then do a clean instal, or you may find you don't have a genuine copy of Windows 10.

people have had problems ... I know we are tought to do clean installs, but not this time the normal way!

Ok Mr Mucks, will do.

As it happens I had decided to do an upgrade anyway as I have a fair few saved games stored all over the place on my C drive, plus quite a lot of emails I'd like to keep a little while longer.

And, I suppose all my favourites in IE and Opera, though I know I can back up the Opera links and I can probably save the IE links, not sure.

Right, first to backup Win 7 as it is now, uninstall Acronis TI and let the MCT do it's thing.

It's ok, I've calmed down now, I don't think I'll be throwing any more hissy fits but we shall see ;)
