This is a long shot since I am not convinced that my solution will fix
the root problem or work on your computer but due to the frustration
level here, someone might want to give it a go.

I saw a similar problem running Vista RC1. My solution was to turn
UAC (User Account Control) back *on*. I had turned it off previously
and that was when my problems started.

Assuming you *have* turned UAC off, you can turn it on by:

* Start==>Control Panel
* Right Click 'User Accounts'
* Left Click 'Open'
* Left Click 'Turn User Account Control on or off'
* Left Click on the 'Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect
your computer' check box. Check mark should appear.
* Left Click the 'OK' button

If I remember correctly, you will have to reboot before the change
takes effect.

I did submit a problem report on this issue.

Hmmm. I went back and looked at my notes on this and found that to
recreate the problem I had first turned UAC *off* and then turned UAC
back *on*. That is when the Mail problems occurred.

If you have turned UAC off and then back on, turning UAC back off again
could resolve the issue. Just follow the instructions above and uncheck
the 'Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer' check
box.

If you want to continue to use UAC, you may have to reload Vista or use
one of the other methods mentioned in the thread.

So, is there no easy and sure fire way to fix this? I am not a computer
wizard, and could use some help.

I switched to Windows Live Mail Desktop (beta) until a solution is found.
The frozen email did not migrate to it. However, neither did my Mail
folders. I find that as long as I opt for the beta mail to be my choice for
first priority, the other mailbox although unattended, retains all folders
as-is.

Yes - including the iceberg.

Hello,
Can you please clarify what I am to do about this outbox mail problem, I am
confused I see that some have reinstalled and that below there is an option
to hire someone to provide technical to help me?? I have to be able to send
emails, save them automatically and work from home -- not for long though
this will cost me my job if I can not work within this operating system
efficiently. I also understand that reinstalling I will lose all my data
correct, that too is not an option, I will be out of a job HELP me please.

How did you fix this? I'm having the same problem. It's happened before and
I ended up on the phone with HP for 2-1/2 hours! With a 2 and 4 year old
running around, that's not an option today! I can't remember how I fixed it
last time, since we tried so many things. Thanks!

We just got our new laptop on Sunday with Windows Vista and I already have
an e-mail that is stuck in the inbox. Very frustrating, and disappointing to
hear this is not a new problem, and they havne't done anything to correct it.
We're going to switch back to Windows XP. Never had that problem on that
version.

Going back to XP because you don't like Vista's mail program
is like throwing the baby out with the bath water...

If Windows Mail's bugs disappoint you, try Windows Live Mail:

Or even better, try out Thunderbird :-)

If you are not willing to just ignore them, the only way is to delete both
copies of the database (which does not contain the messages, but only
references to them) and let WinMail rebuild it.
First close WinMail, then use Task Manager to make sure there are no
instances of it under applications or processes.
Then click Start | Search | Advanced Search
Check the box to include non-indexed, hidden and system files.
In the Name field type WindowsMail.MSMessageStore and click the Search
button.
It should show you two copies. Delete both of them and re-open WinMail.

I have one message stuck in my In-Box and now have one stuck in my Out-Box. I
have talked to my local cable provider and Microsoft about the problem and
got no help.I called Dell about the problem since I bought the system from
them and they confirmed my problem and told me that Microsoft is working on
the problem and will put solutions out thru Updates. Could take to the end of
the year. At the rate I'm going I will start filling up my mail boxes with
stuck mail if I don't get a solution soon.

ref: email stuck in windows mail !-i have had this happen twice--my solution
is to go into program files-select WINDOWS MAIL-then select -WINMAIL---right
click your mouse and delete the file--it will solve your problem--and vista
will automatically reinstall the file--thx--Jim-Daventry uk

That deletes the executable WinMail.exe.
I highly doubt that would fix anything.
