How do I find windows explorer I can't find the file anywhere.

There are several ways to get to Windows Explorer:

1. Start, Computer. This will open Windows Explorer.

2. If you are a keyboard person, Windows key + E.

3. Start, All Programs, Accessories, Windows Explorer.

Hope this helps.

Explained below:
"Navigate to that folder via Windows Explorer."
If you don't know how to find Windows Explorer, see my other
post in this thread, posted about 5 minutes ago.
You can delete a file by right-clicking on it, and you'll see
the Delete option.

Today I had that problem again (message stuck in Outbox folder).
Unfortunately WMTool (which is in fact only GUI port to esentutl.exe) do
not helped. Finally I deleted WindowsMail.MSMessageStore file. While
restarting, Windows Mail automatically recovered it from a backup file
(it must be a recent backup in Backup folder, of course) and the problem
was gone.

Additionally I must say, in Outbox folder was many orphan message files
with 0 byte size. So, there must be some serious problem with WM
database engine...

Maybe because your backup file was corrupted too.

Here is another solution which is something differrent (mail drap&drop):

Strange, it didn't do that for me.

I concur that WMTool did not help, in fact it made the problem worse.

That other workaround is too labor-intensive. :-(
I'm not about to spend 45 minutes doing that when I have no
guarantee that the same problem won't crop up again tomorrow.
We need to find the root cause first.

You can do what I'm doing: watchful waiting.
Frankly, I'd advise you to hold off on attempting to employ
the purported fixes that are floating around, because we
don't know yet what's causing the root problem.
Why go to the trouble of employing a laborious 'fix' when
the same issue can recur over and over again.

Yeah, I wrote WMUtil because the users couldn't figure how to use esentutl.

I'm going to be adding some new stuff to it.

The zero byte files in the outbox are a known problem.

Steve, it's great small app anyway. Thank's for it :-).
The real problem is with ineffective algoritms in esentutl.

Well, I think the real problems are the ways WinMail utilizes the database
and perhaps there are some issues there that no utility can fix.

I am frustrated with Microsoft's support policy for folks who bought a
computer with Vista pre-installed by the OEM. I called Microsoft and they
told me Acer is responsible for this issue. below is Acers reply:

Acer's support for Windows Mail is to the point that it is up and running
only. Assistance with in-depth issues with the software itself such as
what you describe must be supported by Microsoft as Acer would not have any
fixes for this software. Microsoft will always refer an OEM customer back
to the OEM manufacturer however they do support their products for a fee.
Since we are unable to address the issue with their software or provide a
fix, you will need to contact Microsoft for assistance with this issue.
I'm sorry we are unable to help with this issue. - Acer America

So Microsoft will help me with their bugs "for a fee" Fee rhymes with free
but their is a big difference. Is Microsoft even aware of this problem?

.....Pass the buck!

You also recieved a substantial discount (approx 61% at Ozzie prices) which
included no support from MS. For the edition I have you would have paid $293
for OEM versus $754.95 for Retail (which is what I paid).

What makes it even worse (and I don't know the applicability to Acer) but
many of the computer makers are dumping all kinds of software on the
machines (the software companies pay them for that), all of which insist on
running at startup and users are having troubles and no one can understand
why.

And its gotten so complex that no single group of individuals understands it
all, so no wonder, when something breaks, no one has a clue what could be
the root cause.

And companies are selfish -- they care about their income and their personal
interests at the exclusion of the other companies, and particularly the
consumer.

steve

i had the same problem. nothing worked. non of the recommended solutions. so
i exported all messages except the outbox (where i have the problem mail) and
then went into

......AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail

and deleted all it's content. after rebooting mail, i imported my messages
back and everything works fine now.

Steve- I have the same issue- a message stuck in the outbox-can't delete,
move etc.
Blocking me from sending any messages. When I download the WMUtil program,
am unable to follow the prompt to repair database (it is gray will not let me
click on it) I had closed windows mail and rebooted.
Please advise....

It sounds as if you have antivirus software loading WinMail in the
background.

Remove McAfee or Norton AV and antispam from the computer
if they exist. You may need to visit their website to fully uninstall the
product. Then get something less invasive. There are a number of free
antivirus programs, but with any you have to disable email scanning. See
www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

Then you can try WMUtil.

If that doesn't work, the only solution so far is to wipe out the database.
So go to
Tools | Options | Maintenance | Advanced | Store Folder to find the message
store location. Then move everything under that Windows Mail directory to
another directory. Then restart WinMail and it will open fresh with nothing
in the database. You can then add your accounts and if they work correctly
then you can use File | Import | Messages and choose WinMail format and
point to the directory to which you moved the files.

steve

Did you have to reinstall VISTA? My messages were stuck in the outbox. I
was able to move them to folders (going to EDIT)and/or delete (going to
FILE)... except for one message. That message remains and the pop-up ERROR
box always comes up. When I click SEND &RECEIVE there is a quick message
about connecting and disconnecting. Is there a quick disconnect... not
allowing those messages to be sent? JulieM

Can I remove IE7 and install IE6 on my new notebook and use the system that
works? Vista and IE7 are for the birds, too many glitches. I cannot remove
the files from both outbox nor inbox. No solutions work so far.

IE6 will not install in Vista.
What does IE7 have to do with outbox or inbox?
Sounds like your problem is with WinMail rather than IE7.

Gary VanderMolen

If you moved all the files from under the message store directory, as I
indicated, then WinMail will start.

steve

=?Utf-8?B?T25lLWV5ZWQgV2lsbGll?=
I can't delete it, send it, move it, cut it... when I right click for
properties
it gives me an error message- the properties of this message could not
be displayed, an error has occured.

I tried rebooting but its still there.

This is a long shot since I am not convinced that my solution will fix
the root problem or work on your computer but due to the frustration
level here, someone might want to give it a go.

I saw a similar problem running Vista RC1. My solution was to turn UAC
(User Account Control) back *on*. I had turned it off previously and
that was when my problems started.

Assuming you *have* turned UAC off, you can turn it on by:

* Start==>Control Panel
* Right Click 'User Accounts'
* Left Click 'Open'
* Left Click 'Turn User Account Control on or off'
* Left Click on the 'Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your
computer' check box. Check mark should appear.
* Left Click the 'OK' button

If I remember correctly, you will have to reboot before the change takes
effect.

I did submit a problem report on this issue.
