Unsent messages in outbox

Hi Frank,

I'm new to this message board thing.

I'm in need of help with my Windows mail.
I've tired several things and nothing seems to work.

Any help you could give would be great. I can get mail, but I'm unable to
send out mail. I can delete email from my outbox and everywhere else. I'm
just not able to send out.

Here is the error message I get

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Re: Can I get some
advice', Account: 'pophevanet.com', Server: 'mail2.hevanet.com', Protocol:
SMTP, Port25, Secure (SSL): No, Socket Error:10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Any help you could give would be appreciated.

Katie

Does the connection go through another internet provider's equipment
before it reaches the server? Such connections to port 25 are often
blocked to cause trouble for spammers. You might ask hevanet.com
if their email server listens to another port for outgoing email so you
can avoid the problem by using the other port.

Thanks for the advice. I started out with the mail.havanet.com, but Hevanet
had me change it to the mail2.hevanet.com. I tried it again and got the
same error.

It may not make any difference, but according to your IP:

the SMTP server name is mail.hevanet.com, not mail2.hevanet.com.

Which antivirus are you using?
Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee
and Norton security programs. Those will need to be
uninstalled, not just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see

I have the same problem. Can you help?

If you're using POP3 as a server name, that's the problem. Check with
your internet provider for the correct server name and any other
instructions you must use in setting up the account.

If not, you're more likely to get a useful answer if you post the
complete error message.

Some antivirus programs often cause problems with Windows
Mail, so which if any such programs are you using?

You'd get help faster if you posted the full error message here.

Also, what if any antivirus programs do you have? Some of the
common ones cause various problems in Windows Mail, although
seldom immediately.

Hi . I am sorry to bother all of you. I had my cox address configured to my
old outlook express. I am now runnign windows vista and have the new outlook
express which is windows live. however windows live will not let me import
mail from my old hotmail acct. and it has not imported all of the addresses
from my outlook express acct and finally when i want to add my hotmail acct
to the new windows live it states it does not serve hotmail but will use
windows live which is what i already use--very confused..yet my windows live
email messages never show up with the cox messages--i simply want them all
to show up as they used to

Are you confusing Windows Live with Windows Mail, the replacement
for Outlook Express that is built into Vista?

You may want to download and install Windows Live Mail, which does
support connections to Hotmail.

Doc, I hope you never have to write a prescription for me.
There is no program named Windows Live.
Admittedly, Microsoft has given several programs very similar
names, but in this profession, as well as yours, accuracy counts.
