The distro is full of stuff, yes. One might even call it 'bloated'.. :-)

Bloated? Hardly, unless you go hog crazy installing stuff.
The 5 prig ref was more aimed at the 23000 other apps available through
Synaptic manager

Actually, most noobs should probably stay clear of Synaptic and use
Ubuntu's add & remove programs tool, until they know what they are doing.

It's much easier to use anyway.

My download is almost done...

Little hung over this morning? How could anyone that reads this group
regularly not know that Ubuntu 8.04 came out today? :)

Oh, then that 5 program deal was just BS, right? Because there are a
hell of a lot more useful programs than that in any Linux distro.

And yes there is a learning curve, but then again, there is a learning
curve moving to Vista from XP.

I'm downloading 8.04 64bit right now. I'll be trying out the LiveCD as
soon as I'm able to burn the iso.
Who's going to do it for you nitwit?

First off - this is an MS group. I'd like to know why you posted here?
Be cause he's a low life that wishes he could afford Vista. Instead he ahs
to use free, poorly supported linsux

1) looked in dictionary - could not find "ahs" - please define.

2) not familiar with "linsux" could you please provide a link - then I can
ascertain for myself if it's "poorly supported".

Just go to the Ubuntu site. It sucks

So you've downloaded, installed, and have evaluated the latest LTS
version of Ubuntu already?

Ubuntu 8.04 was just released this morning.

It would be like me reviewing Vista, based on only using XP.

I already have it running and partially customized, looks good. Went
through the hardware tests, installed the nVidia advanced drivers to get
advanced look and feel. I like certain apps and development options so
after a visit to the package manager we are rock'in. Got the wobbly windows
and roll tab features. Love that WinKey-Tab... 64 bit too. Nice.

Was difficult to find a mirror that wasn't on it's knees. Found one that
was only 91% full on a 1G interface, it came though slow, but did come in.
Will probably ease up in a few days as everyone and their brother is
downloading it.

Keep guessing. I will tell you when you are 'warm'.. :-)

Out of ideas. You will have to tell us what items that make Ubuntu hard to
install. Certainly faster than Vista.

I didn't mention 'installing'..

So was it using? Ubuntu is easy. Even has the glass on the non-hight-
lighted windows. Glass done right.

Unbuntu is easy. In less than 20 minutes, have a News Reader running,
pan, reminds me of Forte Agent or something. Neat, Frank can meet the
kill file. I think you can even get a MS-Windows version. I don't think
Vista mail has kill files does it?

The disc makes a darn good coaster!
Other than that...not worth the time
or massive effort required to install
and use it.

Windows Vista is lights years ahead!

Is it just me or did you essentially just admit that Linux has the better
eyecandy?

Oh, you mean that cubie thing that you like to trill around?
Yeah, that can be addictive! In fact I showed it to one of my associates
and he loaded it at home to baby sit his pre-teen kids...LOL!
And on that note, what is wrong with that?

MS Seems perfectly happy using Aero as a marketing gimmick to get people
to switch to Vista...

Get real stephen...aero is great for an open window sorter...but to sit
there flipping windows is well...dumb...be it on Vista or linux.

so according to that rule,...

rule...what rule? We don't need no stinking rules...LOL!

they shouldn't be doing
doing that as it's only eyecandy right?

Are you making this up as you go along?
I mean, gotta be consistent...

Yeah, maybe you should give it a try.

Is this any good? Anyone tried it?

I normally would think that this is not an appropriate place for
discussing and advocating Linux but even MVPs don't have self-control,
so let's do it together.

It's getting closer to Windows prior to Vista and it takes much less
time for me to access to XP's shared folders, set up HP printer and to
install Nvidia driver than that with Vista.

I think MS is taking the right approach for rethinking the Windows'
design instead of listening to their techie staffs and fanbois.
