I am actually trying to send a short music file (not a picture), but I'm
still coming up with this msg. Why does it give us the option of inserting
background sounds if it won't work? Why can't I send my song?

I don't usually have any trouble sending pictures in the message of my
emails. However, I have the pictures saved on my own hard drive in a folder
named Samples under the folder "Pictures". Click on INSERT, select PICTURE,
click on BROWSE to find your file and select it, then click on OPEN. This
should insert the picture at the point where your cursor was. The only time
I have a problem is when I am forwarding a message with pictures in it and I
got around it by selecting the picture in the original email and then
clicking on SAVE AS, give it a name and select the folder name you want to
add it to. Then you just follow the directions at the beginning. I hope you
find this helpful. Sincerely, Maritimes4Ever

i only want to send a picture in my email. i don't want no trouble, just
tell me how to send a picture. not an attachment, a picture that is viewable
by the recipient. there are limited settings in the preferences and when one
does insert picture, it still pops up that stupid message. so where's the
cancer?

Make sure that file isn't open in some other program.
Windows Mail can't attach documents or images that are
still open elsewhere.

Oh how I agree!!!! When I bought this new computer about six months ago I
asked if I could have it with XP instead of Vista because I didn't think
Vista was old enough to be trusted. Unfortunately, they informed me that
Dell no longer installed XP and I had no choice but to accept it with Vista.
I don't understand why they even developed Vista. It is a resource hog -
have you ever taken a look at how much RAM it uses? Most of the so-called
'improvements' are anything but! I have yet to find one thing that is better
than XP. I like Windows Mail but could have stayed with Outlook Express just
as well. I have also considered going back to XP but can't afford to buy it.
Of course, we all complained about XP at first too - but I really do miss
it. Other than the usual effort to learn something new, XP never gave me the
problems I've had with Vista!

Sometimes 'picture' may be referring to HTML fonts or to a stationery or a
message in colour.

Why do you want your RAM to go mostly unused? Your RAM is meant to
be used. If Vista caches a lot of data in RAM, that is good because it
speeds things up.

Robin,
I had the same problem trying to run an mp3 file in the background. I
converted it to a wav file and it was OK

So does this mean I have to buy an install DVD, since I did not get one with
my laptop? According to the link, I have to have one.

On the other hand, what is Windows Live Mail? I don't want another program
that is complicated or takes more time. I use the internet for work and
don't need anymore complications.

Thanks.
Linda

Very peculiar! Something in your Windows Mail is corrupted.

As I see it, you have two options:

Switch to Windows Live Mail:
http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

If you would rather not do that, you can try a repair-install of Vista:

1-I get this notice ALL the time, from the moment that I bought this laptop,
one year ago.
2-Microsoft is just too difficult for me....going to the site and trying to
get help there...wellllllll...forget it
3-Then, when I want to come to this site, I can't remember how to get
here!!....THEY NEED TO PUT OUT INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE NON-PC GIFTED CUSTOMERS
4-since I am complaining.........>sales people.....are they LYING or does
security that is BOUGHT do more than that which is free.........my laptop is
one year old......I had Kaspersky and I am told that I need to reinstall
Vista because of worms and trojans.........someone told me about AVG, I am
getting the free version and some of the major problems are gone...(I an not
ready to reinstall Vista.)
5-I was so stupid to let my warranty lapse.........I DO want to warn
others--->I bought this pc a year ago, Toshiba. I had 1 year of warranty
that came with it. I was told that I could buy further warrany when my year
was up. In December, I received an email that said that I had until January
to buy extended warranty...I COULD NOT BUY THIS AT CHRISTMASTIME.........it
wasn't fair, I fought it.........I just want to warn people......BUY EXTENDED
WARRANTY.......I found out that, at Best Buy, just to get a diagnosis, the
fee is over $100.

Thank you.

I don't know what I am doing.

I am actually trying to send a short music file (not a picture), but I'm
still coming up with this msg. Why does it give us the option of inserting

In order to attach pictures (or any other attachment, for that matter), the
pictures cannot be open in another program.

The AVG free antivirus is quite adequate.

Hi gary, I have a similar problem. Stationery that worked fine in XP SP3 now
only displays pictures but no sound. I have tried for days to get stationery
from Cloudeight with Christmas themes and carols etc playing in the
background. I followed all Cloudeight instructions for Vista Ultimate 64 bit
and still no music. It is driving me nuts and Christmas is here and still no
stationery with music.

How do you do that? How do I find out what the music file actually is? When I
go in via My Computer to the cloudeight stationery and click on the program
it opens and plays the music (think via IE) but doesn't show me what the
sound file extension is. How can I find out and how can I convert it in the
actual file?

Sorry, I don't use stationery, and I know very little about it.
One of the other responders should be able to help.

I have the same message regarding a reply that I want to type up and save as
a draft. It won't let me save it because it says pictures in the previous
message are missing and there are no pictures that I can see in it. I have
searched the message to see. Please explain if someone can.

Make sure the image you are attaching is not open in
another program.

Make sure attachments are enabled:
Tools, Safety Options, Security, uncheck "Block images..." and also
uncheck "Do not allow attachments..."

Also go to Tools, Options, Send, Mail Sending Format, HTML Settings,
make sure "Send pictures with messages" is checked.

I get this same problem even sending emails I've not - knowingly - attached
anything to!
I just replied to an email from someone, wrote my text, hit sent, and again
I get "one or more pictures.... blah blah blah...."
I gues this is a software problem with windows mail.

Was there a picture in the email you are replying to?
Sometimes there is a small picture in the signature.

Hi, thank you for the very detailed instructions, I've done them all to the
T, and it's still not working. ARGH!

Please describe "not working".
I don't see a detailed problem statement from you in this thread.

I too, love the stationery from Cloudeight and used it frequently from my
Outlook Express on XP. Now, I have Vista Home Premium 64-bit, and am not
that happy with it, but I have adjusted as best I can. I am greatly
frustrated that I cannot use the stationery from Cloudeight. On its website,
it says it's compatible with Vista OS, but it's really not. I saved the old
stationery I had on XP into the stationery file in Microsoft Shared, in
Common Files, in Program Files, but to no avail!! I also followed all the
instructions in Cloudeight's help site. I sent 2 emails to them about the
lack of success. The downloaded stationery shows up in the list of
stationery when "message" is clicked, and then "new message using." It looks
like we're out of luck, unless some miracle happens.
