microland technology - rubbish

Baz63

i agree. im shocked trading standards lets this continue. i have my fingers crossed that bbc watchdog will research them when there new show starts again. i have already contacted them as well as others, the more that do the more of a chance we have of exposing this sh*t hole of a company

Sorry to hear of everybody's troubles with MT. I was seriously considering buying a system from them as it seemed very cheap and got a good review from Custom PC (www.custompc.co.uk), which is another magazine you may wish to contact with your experiences if you haven't already.

Somehow, having read up to page 9 of this thread, I don't think I will now. Hope you end up getting your money back.

BBC Watchdog?

Good idea. My next port of call.

Dear Baz63

There are quite a few of us who have contacted BBC Watchdog as the companies and issues that they look at do seem to fir the bill here. Can't do any harm and if nothing else sends a clear, honest and public message to MT that they need to sort their act out pretty pronto - if I were them, the thought that my company could come under that level of publuc scrutiny and exposure would scare the life out of me!!

Kind regards

I did a little legal checking (though I'm no lawyer), they are within the law to the letter. :-(
This doesn't make me any less satisfied.

Distance selling regulations simply state that the seller has to provide a clear statement on delivery times.

From Microland: 'The Checkout includes all details and prices for your order including delivery costs, when you complete the order it will be confirmed by email. Dispatch is typically 2-3 working days.'

I'm just wondering how they define 'typical'? My order isn't typical then? So when can I expect my order? It seems perfectly legal for Microland to send my my goods next year!

Only I am dissatisfed with their service. So my next option is to cancel, I only wish I can get my money back before november...

I placed an order with microland technology. After two weeks rang up to be told that order was not sent because one item was out of stock. Promised to ship items next day minus out of stock item. Duly arrived. Over a week later the remaining item has still not been received. Rang up today to find out why only to find that the phone number has been changed and ,new number, phones are not being answered because they are dealing with emails. Advised by answerphone to ring back in two hours. To add injury to insult the full amount has been deducted from my credit card.

Dear Banger

You are quite right in relation to Distance Selling but there is the concept of what is reasonable in law and that is that delivery must occur within 28 days unless the buyer has a contract in writing with the seller which stipilates otherwsie. In this case, usual delivery in 2-3 days (sic) is then superseded by the 28 day rule. I hope that this is helpful. The cancellation issue is the same - the seller has 28 days to effect the refund and post that has exceeded what is reasonable unless you have some other arrangement in writing.

I know that the above is probably not what people what to know or hear but the legislation exists to provide some clarity. I too felt extremely let down by this company (as numerous others have done and continue to do so) but it is important to understand the legislation and what you can and cannot do in order to then consider what other options are available when companies do not adhere to legislation.

I think that one of the most useful pieces of information one can offer when dealing with Distance Selling is ALWAYS to use a credit card and not a debit card. That way, if things get tricky, there is some redress if necessary.

Kind regards

wow now im really thinking twice before useing microland.... i do feel for those that are haveing problems with them.. there was a thing on the radio about TV marketing.. QVC and suchlike.. where they were keeping hold of vast amounts of money and collecting the interest without fulluiling the order or refunding the customers cash....

They were just keeping the interest rolling in on other peoples money.... Then they got Fined.. Ha!.. serves them right... But i bet they have been making more with interest than they paid in fines.. especially when its thousands of customers with large amounts of cash waiting to be refunded!

On Sunday 7th September I sent an email to Microland asking why my card had been debited when the graphics card was not in stock. I made the following observation and ultimatum:

" I see from https://www.pcreview.co.uk/showthread.php?t=4374&page=1 and http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/index.cfm?go=discuss.allthreads&forumid=2 and http://www.romulus2.com/feedback/company.php?66 and http://www.dealtime.co.uk/xMR-Microland_Technology_Plc~MRD-306291 this practice of debiting cards on phantom goods is a frequent occurrence with Microland Technology.

Therefore, I expect confirmation from you that my credit card has been credited with a full refund by 5pm, Tuesday 7th September 2004, and for this to have been actually done, otherwise I shall be contacting BBC Watchdog and Stockport Trading Standards ".

I received the following reply from Microland today:

" I am pleased to confirm that your refund will be processed back to your card today. Please allow 3 working days for the money to appear in your account".
Thanks to everyone on the forum for your support and advice.
I'm assuming the crediting of my card will go smoothly. Am I being naive?

Dear Baz63

I genuiney hope things go smoothly for you. I for one had the same promise which was not kept and my Visa card/bank needed to intervene on my behalf when the money did not appear. That said, please don't assume that your situation will be the same as mine but do keep a careful eye on this one and keep us posted.

Dear Spooky Mouse

Ref your comments above - please take or leave my views as you see fit but I think that the risks of ordering with this company and them actually 'delivering' are too great and I would say that you may think that saving a few quid with them is atractive (which it would be if they were up to the job) but in the scheme of things, you will probably save yourself a lot of hassle and grief if you take your hard earned pennies and go elsewhere. The history to these issues goes back at least 2 years if you plough arouns various net sites but the story the same - ficticious stock levels, cards being debited immediately, nigh on impossible to contact by any means and a real gladiator challenge to get your money back if the going gets tough!! Put it this way, had I done some checking out b4 I ordered my stuff from them and read the consistent messages on this site and others from honest, genuine, down to earth people I would have gone elswhere pretty pronto!! I guess people need to make their own minds up though.

Kind regards

Gabriella..

The message has been taken onboard... ill give these clowns a miss i think .... .. Thanks :)

Even the vast amount of complaints on this thread alone must indicate that there is somthing seriously wrong with that company.... Oh well back to the search engine.. :)

Dear Spooky Mouse

Bless you!!! I really genuinely want to save you (and perhaps others??) from some full on hassle. Believe me, had I known the sheer worry of trying to retrive £1k from them I wouldn't have gone there in a million years!! I spent many slepless nights (quite genuinely) over the whole escapade and I consider myself to be a fairly careful and considered soul.

Take care

Gabriella,

I'm not really expecting the refund: but I live in hope. So many assurances and promises broken in the past how on earth can one believe a word they say.

Cazy,
Was that you I saw in Fat Cats, or was it the Haus, or perhaps The Dolphin, a couple of weeks ago. Nah.......couldn't have been, could it?

Dear Baz63

You may be lucky with MT, they cannot have failed to notice that the heat is on (so to speak) and that there are a lot of us out there with real issues against them. Just keep us posted and I genuinely hope that your problems are resolved in the way that they promise. Do keep us posted!

Take care

I've recieved my goods!!!

It's taken 3 weeks when I expected 3 but I supposed patience paid off. I'm glad I didn't go through the trauma of trying to persuade them to give me my money back. I just wish they would just say typical deliveries are 3-30 days.

I still don't think this outfit is run properly and will never order from them again. Their customer service is dreadful. I don't think they even look at emails. Sometimes I thought this company didn't even exist...

Good luck to everyone else who are suffing heartache. Maybe if you wait a little it'll come through.

baz

good luck. i hope you get your money back.
but i dont think it was me you saw. or could it ? ;)

banger happy to see you are sorted :thumb:

Well done Banger! I hope that the other people currently waiting for goods or money back are sorted out really soon.

I know that there are quite a few of us who will continue to 'watch this space'.

Have you checked your telephone bill lately?

My longest-running complaint against MT is their refusal to answer phone or email: often I give up on a phone call to them after hanging on for 15 minutes or longer.

All this, if you use 0871 2770366, costs rather more than 8p a minute! BT do not call that a Premium Rate but >Special Service<.

Another nice little earner for MT.
Peter

Dear Peter

Do they have a 'proper' landline number? When I was in frequent (or attempted!!) contact with them I was ringing 0870 443 0399 or 0870 990 8890. I wonder whether they were also 'special services' - might have a shifty through the old phone bills!!

I have got a fax number if anyone's interested: 0870 757 2255.

An interesting development in the scenario!!
