microland technology - rubbish

hi Marcus

yep that sounds like microland alright. like many others i only wish i saw this forum before i went and brought from them. there are other forums to, they are listed in this thread.
ok how did you pay MT? by debit card or credit card?. if you payed by credit card you could tell your c/c what has happened and they could persue the money for you. i real ball ache but what choice do we have. please contact trading standards at stockport and also a number of us have contacted bbc watchdog. this company is beyond a joke and it needs to stop. please keep us informed of your situation.

bset regards
cazy

Dear Marcus

We are all sorry to hear about your difficulties which, sad to say are not unique to yourself. Cazy has offered some good advice and you will see that there is a good guide to consumer rights at the front end of this site. Please keep very careful records of all you do - who you spoke to etc.... (I am sure that with you being a law student you will know this) but you may need to rely upon it later on. The time taking for refunds is inordinately long - I know because I am just one who was affected. Please also see PC Advisor site - they have a link on their site to a senior manager in Microland, such have the level of complaints been. You will find that Distance Selling legislation applies to your issues and you may want to check this out either on this site, Trading Standards etc..... I would endorse Cazy's suggestion that you contact tockport Trading Standards and also BBC Watchdog - there needs to be a continued level of consumers expressing their dissatisfaction in relation to this company as they can clearly not come up with the goods and there is evidence by the boat load on this site and many many others both contemporary and historical.

Please keep in touch and we will do all we can to offer support to you. I won't be around for a few days but I will check the postings when I am back home.

Take care

good to hear your money is covered. but prepare for a long wait for your refund. 4 or so weeks is about the average wait time from these jokers (sometimes longer). but at least u know you will get it.

Dear All,

Thank you very much for all your help I've had a great response, special thanks must go to Cazy & Gabriella who've both replied to me directly!

Shortly after I posted my reply I got on to my local trading standards office as well as the Stockport office and mailed them a 3 page account (including all emails from Microland) outlining my grievances against the firm. (See my last message on page 14 for 'My story')

Anyway trading standards have been outstanding they are very good and contact me often (both offices!). Today 16/08/04 I got a call from the Stockport Office who are going to contact the firm.

I have emailed the link to these complaints pages to both Trading Standards offices so hopefully they should see this forum, and also suggested (due to Gabriella's comments) that PC Advisor's forums be looked at- where apparently there are similar dissatsified consumers.

Anyway if you have any more ideas or are wondering where to start please leave a message on the board and I will try get back to you shortly,

Regards,

Marcus Pie

I'm really sorry to see I'm not the only one who has been had by these crooks, but sadly not surprised.

They took my money for a product they never had, even although their site said In Stock.

8 days after placing the order I phoned to find out where my product was, they told me they were let down by a supplier.

So I cancelled as they couldn’t say when they were getting them. This was the 3rd July, and we are still waiting for our refund, 53 days and counting.

We tried phoning on several occasions but gave up after an hour or so, we tried again a couple of days later and we eventually got through to the living dead, Mr I couldn’t give a damn, was its name, I will sort this as a priority sir, give me a couple of weeks it said.

Needless to say we said this wasn't good enough, get me the manager, oh! there all out on site it said. We asked if it could pass our telephone number on to a manager to call us back, no problem! Have we heard?

Why are these people still in business? They are nothing but a bunch of low life crooks.

badger

i couldent agree with you more, have you tried contacting trading standards at stockport?. the more of us that do the more chance we have of getting this excuse for a company sorted.

Its discusting that they are allowed to continue like this after the amount of complaints they have had.

Hi there me again,

If EVERYONE here calls Stockport and registers their discontent this would be a great help

The Stockport Trading Standards Office details are:

Telephone: 0845 6444301
Email: (e-mail address removed)

RING them rather than email since they are very busy and this needs sorting sooner rather than later

Keep the description of your grievance short & sweet, have all order numbers, details of how you paid etc... to hand!

Thanks,

Marcuspie

Hello all,

I'm sorry to say that I've been "cut-out" with MT like many of you. I ordered on the 4/8/04 (they got my money out in 24h) from them a few parts to upgrade my computer cost of £375 and because they didn't delivered on the day they told me I tried to cancel before it was even dispatched.

After several hours and days on the phone, emails, and faxes, I got to cancel the order, getting an email back saying:

"Your order was cancelled on the 11 August. We have up to 28 days to refund your card, I am unable to give you any update until 28 days is up.

Regards

Leanne Barnshaw - Sales Manager"

My question is how much of this is true and what can I do?

I've called the Trading Standards of Stockport to report the incident and now I'm waiting for my local Branch to contact me for advice.

Thanks for your help

Regards

David

hi david

sad but true the law does give them upto 28 days to refund your money, after this trading standards and your credit company can help you get your money back.
the big question is why do they keep our money so long? they have it so whats up with a refund strait away?. this puzzles me so badly. they are nothing but con merchants.
david you could also check out www.pcadvisor.com . microland have forum presence there and there is a link in 1 of the threads i saw. here you can put your story forward to them and see if you get any response.

best of luck

Hello Cazy,

Thanks for the advise. I've emailed PC Advisor for some help or advice.
Finger crossed.

Thanks

Dear David

Update on the support front

I seem to be alone in having problems with a PC from this company. Any make can go wrong but MT are very slow to correct the fault, claim it is too difficult to deliver on-site maintenance (for which I paid) and exacerbate the agony by being near-impossible to communicate with.

The PC, model CB153, would be good value if it worked reliably but had sound problems from the outset and became prone to serious errors on switching on.

Return to Base caused me a lot of aggro and brought no cure. Then they recently sent a new base unit to exchange for the original. That was even worse and they admitted that it had not been tested before despatch: the company certainly seems to be in a shambles.

Now they promise to try again, refurbishing the original base unit. I have written giving them two weeks to solve the problem to my satisfaction: Trading Standards and my credit card company have been notified and legal advice taken from the Consumers' Association.

Writing to the three directors brought an acknowledgment from one but no response to subsequent letters.

Two emails to the editor of Computer Buyer, who recommended the PC, brought no response but PC Pro has undertaken to be more careful about the company profiles they publish - the support staff numbers for MT appeared to be grossly exaggerated.

BTW a Google search for Microland Technology Support brought up an earlier message in this thread.

I've ordered some components (a hard drive and a wireless bridge) from them, expecting it to be delivered in 3 days, that wasa 2 weeks ago. I checked the website, It's 'processed' but not sent for 'delivery'.
I've sent emails and tried phone calls, typically with no response.

I'm at a point where I don't know what to do.
1) I could chase up a refund, but I used a Switch card and would have to go through my bank, HSBC.
2) I could wait for the stuff to turn up, but I wonder how long they can take?
3) I have a case for complaint, should I complain and wait for my goods to turn up?

please advise.

Hi Banger

Sorry to hear your news - first of all what did MT say in terms of delivery? Do you have the 3 days in writing? If not u may have to wait 28 days which is considered to be a 'reasonable' amount of time for the supplier to supply. Check out the article on this site about Consumer Rights as this is very helpful. Please keep careful records of all your activities (who called/emailed etc...etc...) as if you need to seek redress in the future, this will be vital. You may/may not know that MT now have a link on PC Advisor site - might be worth a try?? Speak to your bank by all means but debit cards unfortunately do not give the level of protection that a credit card does. From experience your goods may appear or not - it is hard to say.

Please keep us posted.

Microland advertised the x800xt video card as being in stock so I placed an order last Thursday 26 August. It became apparant this was clearly a misrepresentation. They had none in stock. They debited my credit card. I've cancelled my order. They are proving impossible to contact. I cannot believe they debited my card in these circumstances. I've contacted Stockport Trading Standards.

This is a great site.

Thanks to Turnbull from the Rage3D thread who directed me here and who placed an order for the same card at the same time as me. 10 days into his order and he's still waiting. Clearly was not in stock.

Meanwhile they are earning interest on your money (and mine). A company could earn a fortune on interest garnered from payments on phantom stock. This should be a criminal offence: to take money for payment on an itemthey know NOT to be in stock. This type of deception should be criminalised.
