DVD-RW Capacity vs. Actual

Tell the truth, Gene. You have me filtered. :-)

No, I rarely filter anyone.

More precisely: I rarely set up newsreader filters, I just use my eyes
& brain. Also, the few filters I have are set to mark as read, not
delete/plonk.

You haven't crossed either threshold yet, but please keep trying :-)

Michael, something or someone is filtering out some of my messages.

Could you give us the date and time of one or two of them? I don't feel
as though I've missed any (i.e no odd continuity), and I'd like to look
and let you know what I see. The message ID would help too.

I'm assuming you can get that stuff out of the Items Sent folder (or
whatever Forte calls it). If not, then I have no plan.

What makes you think you're older than me?
This is the first time you're mentioning an RW disk! See what I mean
about you being a moron? :-)
Did you format the disc first? I agree Nero 9 is very user unfriendly.
There should be an option to format the disk first, then try to burn
Session At Once. As far as I know you can't "close" an RW disk. There
may already be unreadable data on the disc which is taking up the other
50%.

Another word about RW's. They corrupt very easily, so don't store
anything of importance on them.
Now, moron, try again, and do it right!

What do you mean they corrupt very easily. I have been rewriting RW disks
alot & have never had an error. I use Verbatim disks which are fairly high
quality.

And I'm using Sony which I expect to be of high quality.

I think you'll figure it out.

Working on it - downloaded the Nero Express manual. I tried their way of
creating a data disk - but got the same results (no capacity left). So I
finally sent an email to Nero tech support. I'll let you know when I get
a solution. Thanks for bearing with me today - moron!!!

Most every CDRW or DVDRW I've used has corrupted or lost files over time.
This was on many different burners and disks. Technically, I don't know
why. DVD+R & DVD-R are cheap enough these days.

I think there's only 3 manufacturers who supply all disks.

It's been awhile since I've been in the mood to really hammer someone.
Maybe I'm mellowing?

Nah!!!!!

BTW, I did a little playing around with my Personas today - but it's
still me.

I never had to check the headers. Moron radar automatically detected you.
:-)

On a side note, I'm going to reinstall Nero. I've been using Roxio, but now
I'm curious. After I do I'll post back exactly where you go to format a
blank RW. I don't think the option is in Express.

Open Nero, not Express and close the project window that automatically
opens. At the top click "recorders." the option to erase is there. Some
older versions of Nero need INCD to be installed to do this.

Don't feel bad. All my posts to you from yesterday have been squashed by
whoever moderates this newsgroup.

And I stopped using RWs for repeated backups a while ago. They failed
for me after maybe 8 or 10 backups.

I don't remember the brand. Probably not Fry's house brand, though :-)

I checked both the message IDs and the times. None of them are visible
here.

Note that your TZ is -5 and mine is -8. I took account of that :-)

So your problem is real (as you already knew).

I seem to lose an occasional post on this NG. The last time, a couple
of days ago, I (unintentionally) killed my local copy before I could
resend it. I got lazy & didn't try to remember it :-)

Interestingly & I guess coincidentally, my first reply to this seems to
have evaporated.

I looked at both the times (your TZ -5, mine is -8, so I compensated)
and the message IDs. I don't see any of them.

BTW, this isn't the first time I've lost a message on a Microsoft news
group. It's not been frequent, although the previous time was only a
few days ago.

Aslo, I finally noticed the e-mail address you're using in this
identity. Nice work :-)

All my messages are getting squashed!

What server are you on? I'm posting from aioe and I haven't noticed any
of your messages missing in this thread.

Giganews. I click on any of my posts from yesterday and they're gone. This
usually happens when I get too nasty.
