Column: Create a Story from a Single Still Photo with Photo Story

I just started using the program and so far I'm liking it. The only thing I
don't like and maybe you know of a different way to go about it, but, I find
it a pain to try to re-organize pictures or to add new pictures to the story.
What I mean is, suppose I have a whole group of pictures that I want to add
to the story, but, it should go in the middle. Well this program only allows
you to add new pics at the end of the story so then you're having to drag ALL
of the pictures one at a time to the middle of the story. Is there an easier
way to do this?

Thanks in advance!

Nope...that's the way it works.

Have you tried using Windows
Movie Maker to create your project?
It allows multiple select.

I saved one story on a network folder. Now, as I am trying to use the Roxio
plug in to burn new stories to DVD, all the saves go to that same network
folder, even if I manually try to change it. Roxio then will not burn the
DVD from a network location. The Roxio guy says it is a Photo Story issue. I
have uninstalled PS 3, shut down and rebooted, and reinstalled, and the
program still sends new files off to the network share. Any suggestions?

Sorry, I couldn't figure out how to start a new thread.

I have been using PS3 for a while and have created many nice slides shows. I
bought the sonic DVD software and have been able to convert them into DVD's.

I have recently started making slide shows that are longer than previous
ones and when I come back to my saved files that I want to edit, they are
corrupt and won't open. Is there something I can do? Does this just happen
with longer files? It is very frustrating.

Thanks

I'm getting the exact same problem. I think my file size is too big, and I
need to split the story into seperate chapters, the combine them when burning
my DVD with Nero Express. I'll let you know how it works.

Liked the tip! Have used that approach to pause after panning, and it works
great.

I am having a problem, that the program is crashing whenever I try to save a
project. This happened in a slide show I was working on, and I cannot open
that file anymore, since it is "corrupt". I tried to open another show and
save it, and although I can open it OK, I cannot save the project, the
program shuts down. I have tried removing the program and re-installing
twice, same problem.

I can open a file labelled ---.bak, and have saved as a video that I burned
on a CD, but cannot save as a Photo Story project file.

I'm stumped, and would rather not start the project over from scratch. Any
suggestions?

Thanks,

Andy

I find this software exciting compared to other photo to video software, my
only problem is that when I am to play the saved project from "Profile to
Computer 640x480" and above, my video output is garbled, do I need to upgrade
my video card memory since it is only 32MB.

thanks, hope you could help me on this.

We are creating a Photo Story of HS seniors and their baby pictures to show
at the after-graduation party. We want to loop it continuously throughout the
evening over the TV's- is that possible?

It would be very interesting to know which encoder profile was used to render
the project in the final step of Photostory 3 (custom or one of the standard
profiles) in order to produce the result we can see on the website. Anyone
knows???

Create a Story from a Single Still Photo with Photo Story 3

In this article, Lead Program Manager Vladimir Rovinsky describes how to
create a mini story based on a single picture with Photo Story 3.

The process works beautifully, but...

Why is there no button to duplicate a picture? Sometimes I'll be in the
middle of a 30-40 photos PS and need a second (duplicate) photo of something.
Often by the time I go searching for the photo, I have lost track of my
"bright idea". It would seem MS could put a duplicate-generating button that
would immediately create the dup right where it should be.

Thankyou so much. I downloaded the plug-in. When following the instructions
to save a photostory to DVD I get 'The profile for the specified activity or
quality setting is missing or corrupt. Try selecting a different activity or
quality setting. Or, reinstall Save your story to a DVD for playback on your
home DVD player activity from the original installation location, and then
try saving your story again.' Is someone able to help me with this problem
please. Pan

This is a BRILLIANT programme and I will never be able to go back to ordinary
slideshows! There is just one small problem I have: when I do the continuous
panning in one photo, I get a kind of "bump" effect each time I reach one of
the edges of the photo. I've tried moving the frame a little away from the
edges, but that doesn't stop it. I noticed this effect in the demonstration
video as well, so maybe it is something I will have to live with!

you eliminate the 'bump' by unchecking the default of using a transition
between the two pix....

Great programme, creates stunning slide shows, - people even think they are
videos!! But - has anyone discovered how to stop the "bumping" effect you get
when you use a single image like the Venice example, and you reach the edge
of the picture?? I've tried ending the pan away from the edge but it still
happens. The other thing that I find slightly annoying is that when you're
using text, it defaults to the original setting when you go to the next
image. However, these really are MINOR gripes, as the end product is so good!

Hi PapaJohn,

Didn't realise previous post had "posted" hence another from me on same
subject!! Thanks for your advice but I did uncheck the box, and there is
still a slight "bump" as the pan reaches the far side - I notice that the
Venice example has this too. I can think of worse things to live with, given
that the end product is so good! In fact, I can see my video camera becoming
redundant for scenery, as this is so much better!

hello
This is a usefull trick which I have been using for some time now: I put
each picture that I want to zoom or pan 3 times in a row on the time-line.
Display time of the first and the third will be set to a few tenths of a
second, while using no motion for both. In the middle picture we will apply
zoom or pan as we intended to do, and I prefer to leave the decision about
the display time to PS3 automatic. No transition should be used in each block
of three; any transition can be used between two blocks.
It is a lot of work but the result is nice to look at! For a good example go
to my personal web-album
http://nuclea-ski.magix.net/
and then to "multimedia/slideshows" where you run the file "ski-landscape.wmv"
Throughout that little video poem this technique was used several times

Did any one reply your answers? i'm interrested to know why can't we match
the picture duration has we would like.

Hello-

I created a video from still photos with music in Photo Story 3. I was not
successful in copying it onto a CD or DVD. I e-mailed it to myself so I
could download it onto a laptop to view. The resolution was horrible--
any suggestions?

thanks,
Cynthia
