When trying to delete message get "AN UNKNOWN ERROR HAS OCCURRED."

WHY? And how do I get rid of this message

found out through trial and error(alot of random clicking) that if i opened
the message then closed it, it would delete. worked everytime. noticed that
these messages that would not delete were "empty". i have no idea why it's
happening though. but at least, i can get rid of them.

The reason it happens is probably because you are using a non-compatible
antivirus program. Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee or
Norton security programs. Those will need to be uninstalled, not just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download and install a
more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their email scanning
option turned off. For more on this topic see http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

O.K., this worked. i was not sure what was going to happen but it got rid of
the "problem" mail. Be warned...all your mail will be gone. Any thing you
plan to keep for any reason...Move it or you will lose it. Thanks Mike

My new Vista PC came with a trial subscription of McAfee preloaded. I
uninstalled McAfee and installed Windows OneCare. Windows Mail now works
well.

Good to hear.

I had the similar problem with WM. But found a solution myself, try this and
it may be helpful for you all.
On vista platform of course

Start>Computer>Drive C or whatever the WM installed in>Programme
Files>Windows Mail>Winmail
At this stage main programme will open.
Then right click on Local Folders (i.e. Junk Folder or Inbox or Deleted
Item), then click on delete. It will delete everything those were in the
folder selected.
Best of luck.
