Email me (if you can). I'm working on a program that might fix it, and I'll
send you a copy to test if it works.

Do a CTRL-SHIFT-ESC and look at the running processes and look for
WinMail.exe and right click on it and select End Process. Then do the move.

steve

Reread the steps. You close WinMail in step 2g and don't start it up again
till you have moved the message store folder elsewhere.

Complaints here don't mean anything to Microsoft and they don't listen to
us, either. Call customer service if you want your complaint to be counted.

DGuess, I did re-read it, plus did what Steve suggested. It worked, as far as
the folders being moved elsewhere. BUT, it moved all the folders at once,
EXCEPT the Outbox, which is the problem child here.

I had one email in my inbox that I could not open, delete or move. I just
recently created an email which went to my outbox and sat there. Again, I
could not open, delete or move it. I also could not send emails.

I found this procedure on the internet and it worked. MS was no help at all.

Thanks to John.

Make sure that Windows Mail is closed when you do the next steps.

Go to the folder C:\users\%your computer name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\ and
copy the “Windows Mail†folder to another place on your hard drive for backup
purposes so you will not lose any important emails.

Go back to the C:\users\%your computer name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows
Mail\ folder and delete ALL of the contents.

WINDOWS MAIL, SINCE IT IS PART OF THE OPERATING SYSTEM WILL REBUILD THE
FILES NEEDED TO RUN.

Open Windows Mail.

In Windows Mail, Go to File-Import-Messages

Select Microsoft Windows Mail 7, select next.

Browse to the location that you save the backup copy of Windows Mail. Then
select OK.

Your messages will then be imported back into Windows Mail.

You will notice a folder that will be called “Recovered Messagesâ€

Now, depending on what folders you had, recreate those under the Local
Folders heading.

Go back to the folders of the messages you recovered, you will notice
messages that were not removable before still there.

THE FOLLOWING WILL TAKE SOME TIME, BUT WILL REPAIR YOUR PROBLEM.

Locate each email that has NO Heading and highlight each one and hit the
delete key, they will be placed into your Deleted Items folder, you must not
go too fast or try to highlight and delete them all at once or you will get
the error message again,.

Once you get to the emails that you want to keep from the Recovered folders,
highlight all the messages by clicking on the first one, holding down the
Ctrl key and selecting the last one.

Right click on the messages you highlighted and click “Move to Folderâ€, then
select the folder you want them moved to.

Once the files have been moved, delete to folder that they were moved from
(Makes it easier to keep track of where you are at.

Then go to your Deleted Items folder, right click and hit Empty “Deleted
Items†Folder.

Hope this helps.

It also helps to change your setting under Tools-Options in the tab of
“Advanced†under “Maintenance†Where the heading of “Cleaning up Messages†is
located, check the box for “Empty messages from the “Deleted Items†Folder on
exit. That way, your emails are removed and hopefully the problem stays gone.

i've tried this several times. it comes up with "the system could not find
the path specified"

If you can't delete messages that are stuck in the outbox,
you should try the new WMUtil utility:
http://www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/
When you download the file, be sure to choose Save rather than Run.
After it finishes downloading choose Run, then Extract. Then it will
show the extracted folder with two files in it. Run WMUtil.exe, and
click Clear Outbox. It may take a while. Before you start, make sure
Windows Mail is not running.

This program is the only thing that worked for me. Thank you very much.

But Microsoft definately needs to repair this Windows Mail issue anyway.

This is the fix...Open windows mail. Easy, and no Command Line needed....

1) Backup your current messages and Folders
a) Click File>Export>Messages.
b) In the window that loads, click "Microsoft Windows Mail" and then
click Next
c) Choose an export location (as in an EMPTY folder on your desktop or
in My Documents) and click Next
d) Select the "Selected Folders" option. Choose all the folders you
want to save EXCEPT for the outbox folder. Click next. This may take a while,
depending on the size of the folders.

2) Close Microsoft Mail.

3) Delete Microsoft Mails messages (and backups)
a) Navigate to C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows
Mail, with substituting "YOURUSERNAME" with our username...
b) Delete the following folders: Local Folders, Backup
c) Delete the file that everyone was telling you to delete...
"WindowsMail.MSMessageStore"

4) Reload Windows Mail

5) Import your old messages using the same method as exporting, importing
from the folder that you exported to.

6) Once you import the files, a new subcategory will appear in windows mail,
it's call "Imported Folder". Your messages are there. You can move your
messages freely into the correct folders...

Hope it helps!

In horrible Vista, I can't even find Windows Explorer in the list of
programs. Where would it be?

Thanks,

There are many ways to get to Windows Explorer.
One way: Start > All programs > Accessories...
Or the keyboard way: Windows key +E.
Or just double-click on Computer.

I got as far as 3 a but when I tried to find the correct folder, I found
C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\ "works" instead of
Windows Mail, so know I'm still stuck. I can't send any outgoing mail until
I fix this on my brand new laptop.

You're referring to an older procedure that has been superseded
by a better one. Use the new utility program that will remove a stuck
message from the Outbox:
Go to http://www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/
When you start to download the wmutil.zip file,
be sure to choose Save rather than Run.
After it finishes downloading choose Run, then Extract. Then it will
show the extraction folder with two files in it, WMUtil.exe and scxout.dll.
Run WMUtil.exe, wait until the buttons become active, then click on
Clear Outbox. It may take a while. Before you start, make sure
Windows Mail is not running.

I, too, have started having this similar problem. My computer isn't even 3
months old. When I try to find this location, I can't even find it. I'm so
frustrated. Can you help me located this location? Thanks!
