I'm curious; where did you expect the files to be placed?
Not very "green", are they?
I complain to every author about crap strewn in the Windows user
and system folders. There are many good programs that do this, but
that doesn't make it right.
When some programs are un-installed, they leave junk behind in the
user and system folders. Grrrr!
Hey Q! I just found out that XanaNews has a provision for moving
the message base. File,,Move Message Base
It's now in \Xananews\Data, right where it belongs!
Incomplete uninstalls are a separate issue.
Sounds like Colin has done will, putting it where it should be by
default but letting the user change the configuration if he chooses.
No they're not.
If the program's files are not scattered all over the HDD, they're
less likely to be left behind.
Look, Q... I know you do not put a high value on green programs. I
do. We'll just have to agree to disagree, OK?
I can't agree to disagree about whether green programs are a good
thing, just your apparent belief that mixing executables and data is a
good thing. It's much more green to use %programfiles% and
%appdata%.
Have you tried to use Hamster (classic) with it? I use Xnews
and it doesn't have offline capacity either, so I use Hamster
with it (and in fact also to handle my email) - a bit steep
learning curve (just a bit) but really great program!

(btw, if you want to try it, I suggest to get the lastest
build 2.0.5.5. Although they call it beta, it is indeed quite
stable)

Never tried. I can try this, as I need more filtering
features for my newsreader (Gravity).

I do not mix EXE and Data files. I create "Data" sub directories
for data. My Xananews program files go in \Xananews, my data files
go in \Xananews\data. Now take that back before I hold my breath
and turn purple.

You shouldn't do that! I know you won't take my advice, so we'll have
to count on your wife to save you.
Now this would be one of the funniest lines i've seen in this group for a
quite a while...........
No, Luu Tran wrote Xnews and Colin Wilson is developing Xananews.
I don't often heard Gravity people want a better filter.
Doesn't Gravity has a pretty good filter? Never use Gravity
myself but I have been imagining that Gravity's filter would be
as good as the one that Xnews has.
If I wasn't her biggest fan (and badly smitten), I would have found it
funny too.

Gravity does not allow you to filter by a header. I faced
this problem:
- on the rec.games.roguelike.adom newsgroup, there are
trolls that crosspost to 100% unrelated groups. Let me call
those 'BAD_GROUPS'.
- I wanted to kill *ANY* crosspost to those 'BAD_GROUPS',
but keep crosspostings to other groups.
The logic is:
if ('Header: Newsgroups' contains ANYTHING that is on
'BAD_GROUPS') delete
message
For this I would implement: if the 'Newsgroups' header
contains any of those groups, instant delete. But Gravity
don't allow me to do that.
So I need better filters.
