Below is my update history for 98SE. I did a clean reinstall recently
and these are the files and the order that I got them.
[...]

I recently did a fresh install of w98 on an extra primary. Tho' it will
probably take me half a year or more before I've got all the thousands of
little registry tweaks and path settings and such in place to where I will
switch over to it as my default activity center.) Just started, and as now
haven't fully decided about the MSIE choice.
Successful Tuesday, October 07, 2003 October 2003, Cumulative Patch
for Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (KB828750)

I assume you thought this over? For a long time, the consensus in the win98
newsgroups was that IE 5.5 was the best choice for win98. Then after SPI
for IE 6, there seemed to no longer be, as far as I was able to observe,
any clear consensus. Right now I'm leaning towards IE6...but not fully
sure.

One thing I do plan on doing. IE eradicator first. Then install of MSIE. I
read this advice in a newsgroup, that it makes things cleaner. Even if this
end weren't definitely achieved, I know that I will still appreciate the
deeper installation logging information I'll have with this route.

Anyone here done this? IE Eradicator merely as a step to get a really fresh
install of MSIE's system stuff? Also, something I've not poked on the web
about yet... is IE Eradicator the de facto choice, or are there other
programs/scripts in this class to consider for this?

I really gave it no thought other than 6 _should_ be better written
somewhat as far as security goes. MS has had vulnerabilities pointed
out over the years. Patching old code is tougher than starting out
with a new base that addresses older issues.

I had a bad go with IE Eradicator awhile back. It was an earlier
version of IE and I'm not sure what went wrong, but that led to the
next to the last reinstall that I've done. At that time I had a single
partition and my kids were installing things and doing attachments.
The install might have been borderline (or tainted) at the time I
attempted to remove IE.
