Why does some text no longer appear in Slides?

I think it means only print in color at work :) Seriously, this is why I
asked about the printer earlier. I think that your color printer didn't
know about the same fonts as the laser printer you just installed.

Not exactly, I don't think; why? Cause the HP 4M doesn't know diddly about
Arial either, and in any case, the printer doesn't have to know about
fonts - Windows takes care of feeding the driver whatever it needs.

On the other hand, PS drivers don't rely on the video driver while non-PS
ones do. That's why a switch will sometimes sort out these little fracases.
fracasi. fracusim. hoohaas.
However... Now that you installed the drivers, etc for the laser printer, do
me a favor: Open the file, save it as a new name. Change the printer to your
color printer. Does the problem still happen? (I am almost thinking it
won't. Since you added the other printer, the multiuse may now know how to
handle the fonts it didn't know about before.)

This will be interesting. Good idea.
And FYI: ME is the one operating system neither hubby or I will allow
anywhere near our systems. Don't like, never have, never will. And
networking with it is an absolute horror!

I think it's so much trouble because Norton AntiVirus detects and prevents
it.
It's the only thing Norton's done right in the past five years. ;-)

Regarding the 4M:
Are you sure it doesn't know about Arial? Mine did. In fact, lo those many
years ago when we first installed it, it added fonts to the system (or I
thought it did). Can't verify this, as we now have a nice little 4050.
Just checked the HP site. Per this page:
http://www.hp.com/cposupport/printers/support_doc/bpl02075.html#P148_2414
Arial is one of the resident fonts for a 4M. So, installing that driver did
probably have an impact on the default font list.

Any questions?

I will agree with all of this. I only use the PCL drivers, so didn't know
the Windows CD one worked differently. Yet another piece of information to
file away for future use.

Well...that certainly does explain why I had that sudden,
uncontrolable urge to get up and do the Chicken Dance all
over the room at about that time. Whew!...and here I
thought I'd lost the last tidge of any viable gray-
matter...

Wait 'til we get to the frog spell. Got a video camera?

But enough of this. Back to surreality.
Sounds like your printer driver installation is goofed up, or the printer
driver is (or the video setup, but you said you'd already done all the usual
raindances over that bit, so let's let it sit for now).

Try completely deleting the printer instance for your color printer then
reinstalling it.
As long as you're gonna do that, might as well see if there's an updated
driver for it first and install that instead.

'k...here we go...I did some thinking about all the fonts and stuff 'n such,
and all the suggestions and references, and so this is what I did....

Now...taking this in steps;

1. I first deleted all the fonts (I do have them backed up of course).
2. Uninstalled my printer
3. Rebooted and went to Safe Mode.
4. Reinstalled my Windows ME
5. Rebooted to Safe Mode
6. Reinstalled my Office XP Suite
7. Rebooted to Safe Mode
8. Reinstalled my printer and updated the driver.
9. Shut the machine down completely, unplugged it from the wall outlet power
source, then plugged it back in (probably was not necessary to unplug it
....but, at the moment, I had *real* urge to just pull the..ahhemm..plug on
the thing... 'k)
10. Restarted it.
11. Opened PPT
12. Lots of praying, fingers crossed, candles lit, Amm's and incantations
resounding.
13. A nip of the vine for good luck and to steady my nerves
(well....actually...a really big gulp..)
14. Opened a schematic ....and watched with one eye closed and bated breath
as the slide opened.

<sigh>....

Yes! And...Yes Again!!!! All my 'lil sleepyhead fonts finally woke
up!!!!!

I still have a lot of work left to do, adding back in the fonts not now
loaded one at a time to make sure none are going to create another problem.
But...compared to with having to redo over 450+ docs...that will be child's
play. Although, I'm
still not sure what all might have resolved the problem.

Ok..ok....I *know* you're gonna say 'it was the chickens and candle
stuff'....and maybe it was. But, at least now I am saved from the 'frog
spell'... Whew!!!! :-)))

Thank you much everyone, I truly appreciate all your time and help.
Now...if ya'll excuse me...it's about time for a XX's .. ;-))

Cheers!
Jan :)

I will agree with all of this. I only use the PCL drivers, so didn't know

It's two things really -

PostScript vs PCL
and
Whatever the Win CD PCL or PS drivers load vs whatever the HP-supplied
drivers load.

Manufacturers always seem to want to fill your HDD for you; I usually
stick with the driver on the CD when I can get away with it; and with PS I
nearly always can.

Wait 'til we get to the frog spell. Got a video camera?
ahmmm...you will give me just a bit of notice before you start....?? I
mean, the Chicken Dance without music raised enough eyebrows, but...my
sitting out on the green Welcome mat on the front porch grabbing at flies
might be a bit hard for my folks to understand....to say nothing of the
neighbors. And...it might be even worse to try and explain why....

But dang, it'll be fun to watch their reactions. And your explanations.

What did you think the video camera was FOR, after all?
Well...yeah...do have a video camera, I got it last Christmas.
But...well...I'm just not very mechanical....so it takes me a while to
figure out how all the buttons and thingies work. Maybe by next year I'll
get it figured out....but....don't you have one..??

Truth to tell, no. I mooch one off my friend when I really need one.

Actually, it was the Powers That B rewarding you for spelling "bated"
correctly, this not being a fishing tale or a sushi story.

But they haven't told you about Brianizing, have they?
It's how Mr. Reilly, a devout Manhattanite, pronounces "FORMAT C:"

Well...we know that those NY's have no noives...else they wouldn't venture
to the streets, much less to Macy's.
But, there are those of us who are not as blahsay. While my heart may be
stalwhort, and my nerves pretty stealy... when it comes down to that 'FC'
option....we are looking at a major CA zit of at least a magnum 7+ .

Now....while I would like to think that I might be a bit more astatute than
*our* IT Gumby's, this is an area that petryfries me to each end. It would
be *the* very last thing I would ever try to do, and only if I was ready to
go out and buy a new machine should it flail. I have had 3 IT people do this
'lil "easy as pie' trick, only to leave me with a dead hard drive..reformed,
but...mortually brain dead.

Jan :)

BTW .. :-P...pic-ky.. pic-ky.... ;-)))

hmm....ehhh....do they by chance have ice fishing where you live???

Well...can't argue with that...I did that for some time...until they told me
to get my own. Seems it had something to do with when they wanted to use it
for their once in a lifetime vacation to Peru, and I needed it for taping
the pupping of my Venus Fly Trap. Some people....

Shoot, it's so easy an idjit could do it. That's why your IT department
fails. They've already demonstrated that they're not qualified to drool,
much less work with highly sophisticated technical devices. Like shoelaces.

While am a kitty person too, there are some pups that are worth putting up
with. See...I have a Guzmania, and it has lots of puppies. They are really
easy to care for, which is very good, since even false ivy eventually dies
on me. They make really nice gifts too. Sorta like 'The Gift That Keeps On
Giving' ...yep....there ya go.. ;-))

The site tells all about them and their pups.

Is there a website, or some instructions I can print out and study on
this,
just in case it should become necessary at some point? See..I don't have
any Windows CD's to reload it...just CABS on the hard drive from the Mfg,
although I do have them backed up to a CD, and an Emergency Startup disk.

Ah.

It might be better just to do a sidebyside install ... with WinNT, Win2K and
(I'm pretty sure) XP, you can force it to install to a different folder
instead of doing an upgrade to the existing system; that gives you a menu at
bootup, you pick the OS you want and go forth.

'k....that might be better to do under the circumstances until I am sure all
is well, as long as it won't confuse the programs...or me, at least not any
more than I already am. :-))
