Which Linux Distribution?

I think that depends as always what you want to do. Why does it make any difference whether you are also using Windows (any flavor)? Aren't you going to network via Samba anyway?
Which Linux distribution works the best in a home network situation with Windows Vista and Windows XP computers?

Samba is a difficult and fickle technology. It doesn't always work. I don't
recommend it.

The best "distro" actually, price and situation considered, is at this time,
Windows XP.
 
The guy said "best" and "easiest" - that's incongruent with Linux. The
"best" and "easiest" is Windows XP.
 
Oh, I think you made your point, but it doesn't address the OP's question,
over-generalized though it may have been.
