But no one with real self-respect likes Linux .. and Linux doesn't work.
That's why these Linux loonies are all over the 'net going on and on and on.

'Know what "ravings of a lunatic" means? You don't have to look far to find
out. Your get a live demonstration every time you read the absurd idiocies
of a Linux advocate post.

It's just so dumb to even bring it up other OS's in here. What? I'm supposed
to feel inferior, stupid, or envious because someone else uses Linux, Mac,
Unix, AIX? Gimme a break. How stupid do these people think we are?

It's like putting on a T-Shirt that says "Fords eat Chevies for breakfast"
and going to a Chevy car show. You might as well tattoo the following on
your forehead while you're at it:

Just because we use Linux, does not mean we do not use Windows. I'm a
system tech and IT admin. I have to know about many operating systems
inside out for my line of work.

I bet Ground Cover is using Linux and he doesn't know it is there:
routers, dvd players, mp3 players, PVR, cable/satellite boxes, cable/dsl
modems... Majority of these common household electric items and many
others run Linux as it's OS.

Also, Ground Cover you might want to use a dictionary next time you
post. A loonie is a picture of a loon (bird) on the back side of a coin.
Loony, maybe the word you are looking for. This would make the second
time I've corrected you in the newsgroup.

Does the BASH command line scare you, Ground Cover? Or maybe its the
logic of POSIX based operating systems.

If you think we "Linux Loonies" are here because of envy over Microsoft,
you have the wrong concept. Microsoft is heading to a POSIX command line
with Vista Business called Monad. Microsoft is also heading towards a
POSIX style file system called WinFS (on hold for the time being). I
would think that you would be glad that there is some people in the
world that can explain to you how to operate your Windows Vista when it

Maybe so, Luke, but I don't think it is a good idea in the newsgroups to
play the spelling police. It tends to discourage some folks from asking for
help when they see people correcting each other. And then there's the
matter of not always knowing when a poster is not a native English speaker.

Of course, pertinent technical vocabulary is different when a spelling
ambiguity would lead to an incorrect solution.

Wait...NOW yer in MY arena...the Vic20 does not, I repeat NOT run linux.
Someone MAY have written a linux EMULATOR for it, but the BASIC OS of the
VIC20 being hardcoded in ROM makes it imposible to run Linux as a host OS.
There may, somewhere, be a Linux burned ROM out there, but then you no
longer have a Vic20.

Man...let me tell ya folks...You guys really should come listen to TechTAK.
Half of the show tends to be me and my LFWPT having this very same debate,
though we have a lot more fun and refrain from attempting to insult each
other on the grounds of which OS we prefer. (Though there are times when
she, as the sound engineer for the show, has turned off my mic so she could
finish her statement.)

Who the hell CARES whether or not linux or winblows is better? They are two
completely different animals and both have their niches. I happen to prefer
winblows ability to play games better than linux. (Sorry, but cedega and
all those don't work well on any games I play. Trust me, my wife and I have
tried almost every way with those (When it was WineX, they were a techtak
sponsor) and most have little ability to deal with it.

Sheesh you guys...this topic is so old it farts dust. It has been covered
by every show, magazine, convention, etc., and has always come up with the
same conclusion: MacOS rulez....lmao

We get a lot more calls in the Winter. Summertime is always slow only
because, when you've only got 3 months a year to go outside, you USE them.
lol

Trust me...we get calls like that a lot. 60% of the people who listen to
KFAR are conspiracy theorists who believe that TechTAK is actually a CIA
plot to get a list of everyone who owns a computer. ;)

Keep listening. and PLEASE do call in. I gave up asking people to call in
with comments instead of questions. Generally, if it's too obscure, (i.e.:
Something that the person is purposefully talking about that most of the
people listening won't understand) Syn, my LFWPT, will find a way to
accidentally goof up on the sound board...lol (She does that to me all the
time, so don't feel bad if it happens to you.)

The whole idea of our show is that I don't push products much. I hate shows
that have sponsors that have horrid products that, in 99.99% of the times,
the hosts wouldn't use if they paid them to, and they do. We always wanted
to keep it with the Alaska feel, which is the "sitting around on the porch
talking" thing. When the format changes next month, we'll throw some
structure in. When you've only got an hour, it's hard to do that. 90% of
the time, we never even touch on the topic.

Hell...if you can think of a decent "BASIC" topic, let me know...I can
always use the ideas...lol

But no one with real self-respect likes Linux .. and Linux doesn't work.

It's funny really, I post in comp.os.linux.advocacy from time to time,
and am frequently accused by the more rabid Linux zealots of being a
Windows troll. The fact is that I use both OSs (Gentoo is my current
preferred distro, though I also have a copy of Unbuntu installed). I
can see and appreciate that each platform has it's own strengths and
weaknesses. It's clear that you're a rabid Windows zealot, you're just
as blind, biased, and ignorant as the "Linux loonies" you rail
against, you're just on the opposite side and that's the *only*
difference.

Why how high minded and dispassionate you are! Such impeccable
evenhandedness and sophisticated detachement you appoint to yourself! Why
aren't there more people like you who can be counted on not to be counted
on? Your dis-loyalty will proceed you where-ever you go, I am sure.

Which Linux distribution works the best in a home network situation with
Windows Vista and Windows XP computers?

William

Best or easiest? Not the same thing unfortunatly,

Best, Gentoo, as it's a componentised and optimised distribution.
Easiest, Linspire, but costs money.
