Way overdue, giving back to the group - Firefox extensions.

Not very good. Decent ISPs strip binary attachments out of non
binary groups...you know, like this one.

fitwell posted it in alt.binaries.freeware.

But he asked about e-mailing it to you ...

Yeah, they all do. I guess I should change the page's heading.

Where the yell do Firefox extensions live on Win2K? In Program Files or
in Documents and Settings? Extensions should be .jar or a .js, right?

This is driving me nuts.

Sorry, I don't have a webpage. I'll re-post again. If you like, I
would be happy to email to you? How does that sound?

Cheers!

You might consider getting a Gmail acct (has 1Gig space) and putting it up there.

Q, I don't see this on your list. In another thread, I had problems with Prefbar.
In FF 1.0.1, do you know of a *reliable* extension to easily enable/disable images
and javascript?

I use <http://imageshowhide.mozdev.org/> to enable/disable images; it
has a toggle button to put on a toolbar.

Javascript, I dunno. I used to use QuickPrefs. QuickPrefs development
stopped a long time ago, but someone has repackaged it for the latest
Fx versions. I haven't tried it, but FWIW:

I find that sometimes I don't have much to contribute so try to find
another way of giving back to the group. Since I just spent several
days tracking down Firefox extensions that would work with the new v1
to replace the old extensions that didn't work, thought I'd save
anyone interested some time. I packaged up my favourite extensions
and just posted them to alt.binaries.freeware. The file is about 366
kb small <g> and contains the source URL. I was able to do that
thanks to one of those neat newer extensions, SendTo. This one took
me the longest to find and it's the one I use/need the most! <lol>

So enjoy! And thanks for everyone's help in the past.
THANKYOU fitwell.
I have web space available if your site continues to overload Carso -
and thankyou too.

They live in the profile directories, subdirectories of

%appdata%/Mozilla/Firefox

But each extension may consist of several files, not just js or jar,
and trying to sort them out would be a PiTA. What do you need to do by
getting at the files?

Thanks, I will try them, as nothing else seems to do the job.

An update:
In FF 1.0.1, QuickPrefs Options does nothing, maybe because I use late build of
1.0.1 this is happening?

Image show/hide- In Options, I have 2 selections, neither seem to cause a button
on the toolbar, so, as in my other thread, some extensions seem to be very
critical to FF version, or something, as what works for one, does not work for
another.

IMO, browsing and EASY web page feature enable/disable are so basic, they should
have been included in the basic FF.

Comment?

I don't recall that extension having options, but it's been a long
time since I used it.

Right. The options are only about whether or not to reload the page
once you have toggled images on or off.

Image Show/Hide button works fine in 1.0.1, and I don't know of any
extensions which work in 1.0 but not in 1.0.1. Put the button
wherever you want via View | Toolbars | Customize. You may (or may
not) want to do that with the QuickPrefs button also.

If they put toolbar buttons on for every feature any user might
think is "so basic", the GUI would be a giant pile of buttons. (See
thread about Opera, which I like.) Much better IMO to let the user
choose what features to add, so folks who don't want them can avoid
the bloat.

The button is created by dragging a file over to the taskbar, according to the
help file. That file never showed up. The install was normal. I dunno.

In another thread, PrefBar works for someone, not for me.
There are times on a computer, where things atart to happen that have no
explanation. Sometimes it means a virus or worm, I don't think that's it.

Uninstall them all, but it's okay. I uninstalled all the extensions with
extensionuninstaller. Now I'm slowly adding them in, one at a time,
until I'm sure none will crash Firefox.

It was pretty stupid of me just to add them all at once, anyway. :-p
