Yes it is a big deal, you reponded to someone (and rather abruptly I might
add) that didnt have anything to do with what you were responding to. It
was inproper quoting and attribution and is considered poor netiquette.

I like posts where they can be read and I usually top post. Why do
you want to scroll down 5 pages to see the current post through 10
previous posts that you Should have already read anyway??? No logic
there!!

Do you read from Bottom to top? Do you start books on the last page? Why
should he have already read them anyway? What if today was his first day in
the group?

Some people pay for every byte downloaded and Top Posters generally dont
snip and leav eexcess text that others download unnecessarily because the
top poster was to lazy or selfish.

Excessive quoting is just as bad as top posting, your posting methid makes
you guilty of both.

venture" of Slovakia and Canada. Weird.

Hi everyone.

This is a general warning to update your virus checkers and download
the Microsoft security patch and Virus removal tool for the Blast32
virus. You will need to do this by the 16th as after that it will
disable your Microsoft Windows Update server. I have never had a
virus infect my computer since I have had a PC since 2000.
Apparently you do not need to do anything for the virus to take
effect, simply be on the net. In my case, I kept getting an error
telling me I had 60 seconds to save all my work before the computer
shut down. It started to really P*** me off yesterday and today I
see on the news about this virus. To make it easy for you, simply go
to the link I provided and follow the links to download the Symantec
remover and then apply the Microsoft security patch. It worked for
me. This only applies to Windows XP or 2000 users. Here's the link

Thanks! very good info. I don't have this prob yet, but my friend talks
about it for quite a few days now. I'll tel him right away!

No, it will DDoS Microsoft's "Windows Update" servers

No, you must be on the net with an _unsecure_ PC.
- it must run a service you don't need (so it should have been disabled to
begin with)
- you have no firewall (that's properly configured)
- you didn't install a high risk security patch that has been available for
3 weeks
This only applies to Windows XP or 2000 users.

No, it applies to Windows NT 4.0, NT 4.0 Terminal Server, Windows 2000,
Windows XP, and Windows 2003 Server.

Pretty well one of the first things that happened when I arrived here
was to be flamed. Sometimes such things are justified and sometimes
not.

If people are critical then I suggest you think about their gripe. To
see which category it falls into. If the former then there is no need
to react. If the latter then do so politely.

In this case UNLESS you were recommending freeware then you could
have considered marking your post OT (off topic). Then people who
killfile such posts wouldn't see it.

Lastly, writing in capitals is considered by some to be "shouting".
Apart from being unnecessary many people killfile "all capitals"
headers as they often represent posts by spammers, or idiots.
Or both.

I found out it was a NAZI German swine.
 
No probs Sleeperman. It's good to see my post helped a few people. I know
it's a bit off topic, but helpful to "PC Dummies" and people who didn't know
about it. My original post was to try and help people solve the virus
problem so they could continue using their freeware. I wasn't expecting to
be flamed for helping. It's good to see there are still a few decent people
out there like Sleeperman.
 
I heard Windows 98 and ME computers are not affected but can still be used
to spread the worm. Not sure how much truth is it that.

I think it very negative to put down Americans, Nazis, Germans, or George
W. Bush. Up here in English Canada, we usually pick on Neufys (our East
Coast Brothers) or Frogs (our Brothers in Quebec). It's all meant in jest
for most folks, but some are not so inclined. In the States, a lot of
folks make remarks about our brothers of colour (color - for you Yankee
swine, Nazi swine, German swine, Neufy swine, Frog swine, or other non-
categotized swine). It's really terrible - it has got to stop! Jeez guys,
I went on another rant......
