Vista Sleep Issues

After buying an ATI1950 pro card (with Vista dcomp driver) i found one core
of an AMD X2 jumps to 100% and stays there - this caused my "clunkiness" of
the pc, it also started to fail to shut down - Research on other forums
identified the graphics card as the culprit. Conclusion. dump 1950 based
graphics card or revert to XP for now. BSD also occured but I'm not sure what
caused it..... :( think I may keep the card!

bought new dell..upgraded to vista...hugh mistake.....solved the sleep
problem with a patch from dell....found it online in an article from pc
world about fixes for vista...hope this helps.....still looking for fix on
freezes....take care

Hi to all..
I am a new Vista owner, and in the last 4 weeks have had the blue screen of
death 10 times. This has really freaked me out as I paid a small fortune for
this top notch pc.
I also have sleep issues. When pc goes to sleep it is woken with the power
button it starts off well then it crashes, I have had numerous error codes,
but they don't make a bit of sense to me as I'm not IT compatable (lol).
I've read all these posts and most of them sound the same as my problem...
Is there a patch or SP that can help with this prob. This is a new OS not an
XP installation. Also I have noticed when booting up that the screen goes
lumious, I know sounds weird, it has nothing to do with any themes as pc has
not opened vista. the screen has this pink to blue colour and there are what
looks like building blocks scattered across the screen reminded me of of the
old defragment of Win98.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am worried that this could make
my pc unstable.. any thoughts on that.

Regards
Cherry

The only time I have a problem with sleep mode is if my Logitech DiNovo Edge
keyboard or MX Revolution mouse are left on after the computer starts to
enter sleep mode.

And then its only when it comes out of sleep mode, because of occassionally
the mouse may not work and sometimes its the keyboard.

My solution to this was to re-enter sleep mode, and then exit it by pressing
the computer power button and it works.

Not completely sure what's wrong... But you did a clean install, right?

I would think it would be some compatibility issues with some hardware or
settings inside Vista that may be giving you the blue screen of deaths. I
would recommend you checking at like ATI's website :www.ati.com or
www.nvidia.com for the latest drivers, also I would recommend that you check
to if Microsoft has any solutions to any of the problems that you
incountered.

I am not sure if this is for all versions of Vista, but in Ultimate, you
open up the Control Panel, go to System and Maintence, go down to Problem
Reports and Solutions, on the left side click on Check for new solutions, if
it asks to send additional information to microsoft (its up to you to decide
to send the additional information). Then it should finish, and if they are
any solutions available, they will be in Solve problems on your computer area
(the right panel).

Hope that helps...

I loaded the latest version of I-tunes and now my computer freezes about
twice a week. That's much better than every 15 minutes. I know enough about
computers to get me in trouble but the last 2 fixes have made Vista almost
workable. Hope this helps. Thanks

My best response to this is to give Apple time to fix I-Tunes because from
what I have heard. I-Tunes still doesn't work well on Windows Vista. I would
say by June or August they should have all or most of the bugs worked out.

However, I would also say to send microsoft an error report on this as well.

Good luck...

I have experienced the same problems with a brand new HP Pavilion d4890y.
Random sleep mode failures occur even when no applications is running by
checking in the task manager. HP tech support has no solution and bug report
to Vista development group has no response.

I also have the HP Pavilion d4890y and have similar Vista sleep problems.
Example:

A) After pressing the ‘half moon’ keyboard sleep button:
a) The monitor screen blanked out, then came back on in five seconds; no
power down.
b) Tower power button stayed blue.
B) Pressing the sleep button a 2nd time blanked the screen and powered down
the hard drive, but not the fans; tower power button turned amber
C) Neither space bar nor mouse awakens system at that point
D) To recover had to turn off the computer at the tower power button and
restart.
E) After getting the normal HP boot screen, got the black Windows Error
Screen "Windows did not shut down successfully"
which counted down and segued to the log in screen.
F) Same effect if invoking sleep from Start ‘Power’ button.

This behavior is repeatable; the first invocation of Sleep causes the screen
to go off and on, and things work normally. A 2nd sleep invocation freezes
the system in a kind suspended animation. At times in my experimenting, I
got the blue screen: "Stop: 0x00008086", but that has not been repeatable.

Things I have tried to circumvent the problem:
- unchecked "Allow this device to wake the computer" for my Network Adapter
Power Management (no help)
-verified that my Nvidia graphics card has its latest driver

It also appears that if the system is put to sleep by the power option, it
will also not reawaken from the keyboard or mouse; requires total power
shutdown and restart.

Have looked around for other solutions as you did, and found numerous
references to sleep and power option problems, but no good solutions yet.
For the time being, I am leaving the system running.

Anyone else's thoughts will be appreciated.

Nothing new to add other than you are not alone. HP Tech Support tried
everything under the sun including complete system restore (which knocked out
hours and hours of tweaks and file transfers I'd done over the course of a
week), testing every power setting, every "wake" setting, new drivers for all
my hardware components, etc. In the end, sleep mode remains sporadic at
best. All sleep mode does is put the monitor to sleep, green/blue light
stays on the tower, I can hear the fans still spinning, and the only way to
do anything is to do a hard shut down with the tower power button. Then it
starts up no problem after informing me of the obvious...that windows didn't
shut down properly. A little help here, Microsoft??? Hello???

I don't think it's Microsoft's problem. I think that HP needs to
provide a BIOS fix. Please post here if any of you get a solution.

Hello,

I have the same problem.

Sleep mode works the first time you use it.
But if i want to do it a second time the computer locks up
and i have to reboot holding the power button for several seconds.

I bought a Dell w/VISTA business for work--no probs,so I bought a Dell
w/VISTA Home Premium for home--my computer goes to sleep fine, but will not
wake up--I have to turn off the power on the tower and reboot sometimes 2-3
times to get it to a screen where it asks if I want to resume windows. I
have tried Microsoft and Dell and both are no help--keep passing the buck
between each other. I first had this problem on day 2 of using this new
computer--isn't it ridiculous that Dell and Microsoft will not immediately
fix your problem when the computer is brand new?
The fact that this forum even exists is ridiculous--help should be available
from Microsoft and the computer manufacturers-one shouldn't have to resort to
sharing info with other computer users.

Hey Ryan, You may be on to something about the Logitech connection and
sleep/screensaver issues. I have had screen saver/power management issues
with windows 3.1?? 95, XP and vista also. Plus, I have always had some sort
of logitech device...trackball mouse. Now with vista not "waking up" the usb
ports this is a Big issue for me.

I spent many hours trying to fix the sleep mode problem. Finally I found an
optional Windows Update that I downloaded, and it fixed the problem. The
Update is:
microsoft-other Hardware-HID Non-User Input Data Filter. Hope this works for
you.
