Suggest a replacement news reader for Forte's "Agent."

I have used Agent as my newsreader for more than five years. However
since going from cable to a DSL wireless net connection I find that
problems have developed that I cannot solve, i.e.,I can only send post
of very limited size.

I like Agent's open format and would like to continue with something
like it. Is there another news reader that has a format similar to
Forte's "Agent"?

Thanks for any suggestions.

The best freeware news reader IMO and *very* Agent-ish.

Another possibility is Gravity. Formerly sharware offered by
Microplanet, it has been turned into freeware/abandonware and has been
continued by one of its programmers *and* a group that works on the Open
Source level.

http://lightning.prohosting.com/~tbates/gravity/

The Open Source project group publishes its product on sourceforge.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/mpgravity/

I am using this latter variant, which allows for re-editing articles and
shows X-face header enttries (albeit they cause a graphical error on my
old Radeon when scrolling back up)

Maybe you could MesNews a try.

Are you sure that its not just a limit set by your new ISP? Have you tried
with another program and/or another newsserver?

You might try Xnews. It's a little different, but better than Agent in my
opinion.. http://xnews.newsguy.com/

So what did the people in alt.usenet.offline-reader.forte-agent
suggest you do about it ?

Have you asked Forte, or in the Agent news group?

If your new ISP has set a limit on posting, it might not be a problem
unique to Agent and could apply to other newsreaders as well.

Re: "I can only send post of very limited size." Give us an idea, what
size posts can you send. How large are the posts that you cannot send
and are they text posts or binaries?

Better than Xnews. Also, the author is constantly updating it unlike Xnews
which has essentially been rendered "abandonware".

Just took a look at it, but I like Xnews and Gravity better.

Better than Xnews
that sounds a bit too knowledgable and authoratative for a dunderhead
that can't even code a web page properly. i wouldn't buy it for a
second...

Provide more information about his problem.

His initial post:
----------------------------------
Agent won't post to newsgroups any message that has more than one
short paragraph! Anyone have a suggestion about why this is happening?
---------------------------------

Was not regarded as very enlightening. A group techie took up the
challenge, Johnathon was rude; techie went away.

Interesting to note that our boy's 'one short paragraph' problem seems
to have gone away in this group. :-)

Not so. Hence your self professed "holy" observation is invalid.

Gravity sucks. :P

I just started using it yesterday and I like it so far.. Seems to have
all the features I need. I had been using Xnews, which I really like
also, so I may go back to that if I get tired of Gravity. So far so
good though...

Everyone's got their opinions I guess...
