Did you check your various device manufacturers websites for updated drivers
as well as for any updates for your software before installing SP2? If you
have third party firewall and antivirus software, that's not MS, did you
check for updates for those? Did you run a virus scan prior to installation
of SP2, did you check for any malware on your system with a product such as
Ad Aware, www.lavasoftusa.com, prior to installation of SP2? Did you check
the laptop manufacturer's website for information, notices and/or necessary
updates before installing SP2?

Look dear, I'm not a Microsoft Defender but I can tell you this

1/ Almost all of microsoft online is available in many languages
2/ Before installing updates you should READ the online documentation

3/If you can't access certain sites, then go to Internet settings and change
your security options.

4/If certain programs can't seem to connect to internet, go to Settings,
Control Panel, Firewall, and configure it.

5/Post individual problems here and we'll help you get it right.

With kind regards

Ramses (will follow the c0de - Assembly, the language of the Gods!)

This is off-topic, but after running a search in word 03 for the word
'etymology' I was lead to this thread. I am very curious as to where (if it
exists in word 03) the etymology is found.

Have you tried microsoft.public.word.newusers?

As suggested, you should certainly check out a Word 2003 newsgroup. As far
as I know, there is no such module in Word but you can use it's dictionary
and thesaurus function to search the web and obtain word origins.

Not that I can't wait to see this thread die, but you may want to check
your system clock because you are a little ahead of the rest of us :)

Possibly, but that link was not posted as "suggesting a new OS is
perfectly reasonable."
It was posted as "patch that can fix this."
Now if you are saying Linux is a patch your point may be valid.

Amy said one thing then sent unsuspecting people somewhere else.
It is not relevant if the site is clear for what it is, it is not at
all as Amy suggested.
Is that typical behaviour expected from Linux users.
Do they feel it is necessary to deceive to get people to their sites?
If the above is true, I guess this is acceptable...to them.
But I doubt most Linux users support deception as a valid tool to
advertise the product.

I hate to interrupt your pointless arguments, but I have an actual problem.
I need a solution. My disk installation of windows sp2 causes my computer
not to see or use above 4 bit color mode, or 640 by 480 pixels. I installed
sp2 to find an intel audio driver. Can someone point me in the right
direction?

Why didn't you post anew then?

And have you checked the hardware manufcaturer of your video and sound
devices for hardware drivers?
(It is their responsibility to provide updated drivers to fix any trouble
you may have with that device.)

Why would you install SP2 to find a driver?
Go to the motherboard manufacturer web page if it is built onto the
motherboard..
Go to the sound card manufacturer if it is not built into the motherboard..

Visit the manufacturer web sites for the latest downloadable
drivers for your hardware/operating system. Always (IMO) get the
manufacturers' hardware driver over any Microsoft offers. On the Windows
Update site I suggest NEVER getting their hardware
drivers - no matter how tempting. Now - how do you know what hardware
you have in your computer? Invoice or if it is up and working now - take
inventory:

Belarc Advisor

EVEREST Home Edition

Once you know what you have, what next? Go get the latest driver for your
hardware/OS from the manufacturer's web page. For example, let's say you
have an NVidia chipset video card or ATI video card, perhaps a Creative
Labs sound card or C-Media chipset sound card...

NVidia Video Card Drivers

ATI Video Card Drivers

Creative Labs Sound Device

C-Media Sound Device
http://www.cmedia.com.tw/e_download_01.htm

Then install these drivers. Updated drivers are usually more stable and
may provide extra benefits/features that you really wished you had before.

i agree, mine started the same thing... I also have an error that pops up
everytime i reboot, microsoft visual c++ runtime library runtime error. do
you know what thats all about?

Your PC is probably infected with viruses/spyware/malware.
Cleanup your PC before attempting to install SP2.
