somebody please tell me how I delete an ".LDB" file

I've just joined this group and I'm shocked :-)

What are these respected MVPs doing cross-posting? Did someone change the
rules and I missed it?

The rules have ALWAYS been to cross-post (i.e.: post the same message once
to multiple newsgroups), not multi-post (post the same message separately to
multiple newsgroups). In that way, all answers to the thread will appear
together, regardless of what newsgroup the responder is currently in and
people using proper news readers won't have to read the post more than once.
It also requires fewer server resources.

Having said that, this particular post is excessively cross-posted...

Another possible reason the ldb doesn't get deleted is if users don't have
delete permission on the folder where the mdb is located; I suppose one
could remove this permission to ensure the ldb doesn't get deleted, but
darned if I know why you'd do that.

As Doug said, this one is excessively cross-posted, which is frowned upon.
However once it's done, it is best not to trim the newsgroups.

well maybe if you kids took your usenet ettiquite and shoved it up your
ass-- and learned a real database engine -- like Access Data Projects /
SQL Server; then just maybe-- maybe-- your opinions would be worth a
single bloody cent

Aaron, I have read about 10 of your responses and it looks to me like
you are one of the most giant douchebags who has ever gotten his hands
on a group message board such as this. You regularly insult people and
try to sell everyone that you come in contact with on ADP. It looks
like you either work for them, or have had a hand in developing ADP the
way you push everyone on it. If the latter is the case, I would stay
away, especially if your programming ability is anything like your
writing ability.

Also, I am sure everyone is very very proud of how many different
database applications you have worked on, and if they arent aware of
this, they will be when you mention it in your next post (and every
other one after it).

Where do you get off coming into an area created for helping people and
decide to insult everyone who makes a post. Do you think these people
need to hear about you and the way you feel about MDB. It is a well
known fact that a database containing a significant amount of records
should not be something that should be developed in access. You don't
sound smart coming in and telling everyone that, in fact, you sound
like a moron, and are most definately percieved as one. Most people in
here are more than likely dealing with small, departmental databases
that make complete sense to develop in Access. What manager with any
sense is going to spend the time and money on SQL server to keep track
of budgets, employee attendence, metrics, and the like when Access
comes free with Office. Is spending money friviously a common practice
in the company you work for, or just something you would endorse. I
think you have alot to learn when it comes to being a normal person and
part of society.

time and money to develop with SQL Server?

that premise is completely incorrect; the use of Access Data Projects
makes an enterprise-level solution the SAME PRICE as MDB.

ADP is just as free as MDB is.

MSDE rocks; SQL express is here; the next version of office supports
ADP and SQL 2005.

the moral of the story is 'write your shit in ADP'

small, departmental databases SHOULD BE IN ADP.

a database containing a 'significant number of records'

_SHOULD_ be developed in Access.

but the rightful heir to the Access name is Access Data Project.

MDB is DED.

Spit on people that use it.

-Aaron

NOTHING; not a single record and a single user.. means that you should
use MDB.

it's not like we differ on the opinion of record counts.

My referential integrity is defined with a constant; that MDB is for
babies; and that there are a million MDB-babies that are stuck in
dead-end jobs.. just because they're not moving to SQL Server.

the number of work-arounds and bug fixes in a typcial MDB solution?

Do the math; it's not worth it.

Access Data Projects makes developing sprocs and views EASY. Sprocs
and views are just flat-out more powerful than your stupid little Jet
Queries.

I mean; do you really enjoy changing the SQL statement on a SPT in
order to pass parameters?

ROFLMAO

spending money frivolously means that you sit around and you have to
hire a network admin to come in and manually run a compact and repair
once a week.

spending money frivolously means that you need to bring in a real
developer to change a parameter on a sproc.

spending money frivolously means that you have systems that are
needlessly complex.

spending money frivolously means that you learn 2 systems; 2 query
languages-- instead of 1.

spending money frivolously means that you don't leverage the
best-of-breed FREE SOLUTIONS that are out there.

I'm the one that is saving the world from spending money frivolously.

You're the dipshits that are stuck in the '90s.

Haaaaaa!

Damn dude, I knew you would be fired up by that, but you really are a
little crazy. You have a personal interest in this?

Stuck in the 90's ... I was 17 when the 90's ended and had barely been
on the internet. I just happen to use access in my small business as a
useful tool, and have picked it up by trial and error (Help files). It
works for me, my needs, and my "90's" skillset. Kinda weird that a
dipshit like me could fire up such an informed individual like
yourself.

Whats your story anyway, I am curious what a guy as easily set off and
off the handle about how other people spend their time and effort does
on a daily basis.

Fill us in bud!

I get more done in a single day than you mdb-kids do in a lifetime.

I've worked on hundreds of Olap cubes. I've worked on 5+ TB databases.
I've build hundreds of DTS packages.

One DTS package-- without any programming-- is 100 times more powerful
than a dozen MDB developers working for a month.

MDB doesn't even support multiple developers.

ADP _DOES_.

MDB doesn't utilize Ram.

ADP _DOES_.

Access is a great small business tool

But MDB is for LAMERS

I'm not off the handle; i'm just SICK AND TIRED of seeing you kids slam
ADP without giving it a decent shot.

Can you run a TRACE on MDB?
I've built hundreds of MDB applications in the early part of my career.

And I've troubleshat the most complex distributed MDB / Linked Tables
that you kids have ever seen.

But now; I've seen an easy way to take the burden off your shoulders;
and I care - just about enough - to let you kids in on a little secret.

MDB is for friggin LOSERS.
ADP rocks; lose the training wheels
