It was comparing features of news readers, so not OT. Agent might be
payware - however, it was newsreader features being compared, with
freeware such as Xnews an integral part of the topic.

Yeah, what I meant was when I started to get the thread off track by
asking about newsreaders, I could have changed the title of the thread.
Not really thinking... I thought my only option was to mark it OT, and I
didn't because I thought this was a useful discussion. But I should have
changed the thread title. At any rate, I hope the guy whose post
triggered this discussion understood what it was about. :)
It did occur to me, as well, about all these posts that have nothing
to do with Simtel. But I liked that idea. That a subject header
concerning Simtel being screwed up would, at a Google glance, have
appeared to caused a large flurry of discussion.

Haha...I like your thinking. ;)

Am having a similar problem trying to dl photobrush225.exe but do not have
Proxomitron installed.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Okay, here was the original translation:

http://www.simtel.com/product.download.php?id=73866
&url=http://gatekeeper.dec.com/pub/micro/pc/simtelnet//win95%
2Fscrsave%2Fhh2003.zip&mirrorsite=US%2C+California+%28HTTP%29&x=0

became:

http://gatekeeper.dec.com/pub/micro/pc/simtelnet//win95/scrsave/hh2003.zi
p

So, assuming your URL is similar, I'd say:

1. Take the URL and delete the whole front part that deals with
Simtel... i.e. start with the SECOND http

2. Change each %2 to a forward slash (/)

3. Remove the end part of the URL...anything after the "zip"

Unless I've overlooked something, that probably should do it. Let us
know your results.

I asked in xananews.support awhile back whether this feature was
available in XanaNews and the author said that he would add it to his
newsreader; I haven't looked at the latest version of XanaNews yet so
maybe it's there now.

Yes - this feature is now in XanaNews - since version 1.15.8.1

That's great Colin.
For anyone interested in trying XanaNews, here is the author's website:

http://www.wilsonc.demon.co.uk/delphi.htm

And for those who don't have a "recreate thread" option (nor want to
backtrack along the references: line), to see what feature these two
are talking about... It's, well, "recreate thread."

.. . .

PS to Jason. I wish you hadn't made me so conscious about this feature.
Now that you've made me mindful of it, I am feeling the lack. :( For
instance, I tend to keep more messages than I would otherwise, in an
active discussion, due to not being able to easily go back and get
everything under a subject after the first time.
