PSD99's Upgrade thread with Pictures.

cheers guys

thanks for tip off waynos
I really do want a silent solution I'm looking closely at that CPU.
I will probably get a mini synte ninja fan from quiet pc.com

woo hoo my memory has arrived it is HUGE! About double the width/height of normal memory I have seen. This things got heatsinks on it i'm not used to seeing that.

The Noctua fan is massive and the PSU weighs a lot I reckon it could be 6 kg easily.
Hopefully post pictures of them all today. :P

Now the CPU decision and CPU FAN!

Check this out:

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/130475
same CPU on ebuyer for £204

that is £70 more than ARIA what is going on with ebuyer!!! IT is madness

I bet your ram is lovely, I can't wait till you post some more pictures of your parts, :) That is a big diffrence in price. In the past I have always found ebuyer very cheap for computer parts but maybe not now.

Look forward to seeing more pics soon.

cheers yes the RAM IS LOVELY!

It is all packaged up, never had RAM like that before.

Ebuyer are definitely on the way down.

psd99,

Are you happy with the CPU that you listed its a 1066 MHz and you board can handle up to 1333Mhz, If you wanted to get the full wack out of the bord then I would go with 1333Mhz but 1066 will be fine as well. Its up to you.

Yeah but he has an awesome board and if he gets a CPU at 1066 it can overclock, where if he gets a 1333 FSB he cannot.

Q6600 + Q6700 are best buys.

Good point. WF

Hi that is exactly what I was thinking my memory has speed of 1333 and my board can support up to 1600 (overclocked)
so right now I am actually considering getting a CPU that has a speed of 1333. I could overclock that to around 1500 to be on the safe side. Perhaps I will get a 9000 or 8000 quad core series.

Ever heard of yoyo tech? They got some good prices on the 8000 series.

Well okay I got my memory and PSU I am a bit hesitant to install it and turn it on. I would like to get some beeps but was warned I might still get no output at all!! I don't know if that means it would he succesful.

Stage 4 and 5 : The momentus memory movement and the non modular power supply decision....

Okay I hope I get the pictures the right way around....

okay too much hassle (unles a mod wants to do it)
in no particular order:

p.s that last picture is dedicated to Flopps :)

I'll have to go with 64 Bit now mate.

Great pics psd99, That memory looks fab and its so big. :) This is going to be such a great system once its done, you are making me want to build a new computer now, lol.

Okay now for the testing software that madx told me about.

The score I got was a partial score of 238 remember that number psd it is 238!

I got a partial score of 238 because I didn't have the latest direct X installed DO NO WANT TO RESTART THIS THING because it will never POST.

Okay here are two screen shots:

and.....

The specs?

XP 3200
2 GB PC3200 Memory
FX 6800 256 mb DDR

I will do the same test on my new rig, but I got to name her first... :)

cheers mate,

Well I am a bit suprised at the width of the memory, it wasn't like that in the picture!

I think my budget is going to go out of the window for sure. Well no bird at the moment so might as well spend the money somewhere worthwhile. I have been saving up since the beginning of the year for this.

Took a lot of time and effort to research into everything to. I like to plan a lot.

yikes those last 2 pics are huge can anyone change em please?

I coulnd't get 'em smaller cuz the writing wasn't visible.

they should be 1024 X 800

You will be really happy with that Corsair psu, whisper quiet.

I got a Scythe Ninja B that you could have for £10 plus postage. If you pay the postage you could have it on a try or return basis. It would not fit properly on my mobo as the capacitors were in the way but should be fine for your board. Pm me if you are interested.

Works on 775 mobos, its the clearance around the socket that was my prob on my Asus K8N-E Deluxe.

Does the clearance in my pictures suggest that your fan will fit in my board?

Okay memory and PSU have been put into the case. I still get a green light on the board. The system turns on BUT STILL NO BEEP AT ALL!!

Why didn't I get the CPU FIRST!!?

One of my potential problems could be the BIOS itself. My memory voltage and the defaul BIOS voltage could be different or the CPU I get might not be supported with my current BIOS. These are two things that could prevent me from getting a POST.

Gosh should I be worried then?
