When there are a few more volunteers we can work out the details.

I went out of town for four days, and I see you've managed to start
and finish the whole project before I could volunteer. Nice work.

What's next?

Susan should start getting the Files in the snail mail today. She is the
one with the work cut out. The downloading was the easy part.

Your CD was here when I got home yesterday! :)

Looks good (I've only had time to take a quick peek at it).

I'll post when the other two arrive.

I have a little list. . . ;)

and it's here! Thank you, It's Me! :)

I just added the programs from It's Me's CD.

861 MB total. . . Where's my shoehorn? ;)

(I haven't removed any of the non-distributable programs yet.)

We're getting there. Progress reports to follow. . .

Hi,

Many of the programs which I downloaded had both a .zip and a .exe
(noinstall/install). A thought: Maybe one or the other could be left out
in all cases. (or maybe this isn't included in the 861 total)

Outlook Express which I sent on CD has a file siz of 46 Meg which
includes IE. I am not aware of any full install which just has OE in it.

Just some food for thought as it gets close to dinner time.

As for the checksum program, do you think it best as included on the
CD or do you think a download link will be good enough?

Hi REM,

I haven't gotten to that yet. :) Advice from the group is welcome.

Status report:

I grouped the programs in alphabetical directories (1, A, B etc.) with
subdirecties named for each program. To minimize confusion some programs
have additional subdirectories - for files that are not *named* in the
description on the Pl page.

I'm correlating the files and the PL descriptions - updating program
descriptions to match the downloaded files - re-downloading some
programs to match recently updated descriptions.

Like sweeping sand on the beach. . . 100 percent agreement is not gonna
happen. . .

I've gone through half the alphabet, N-Z still need to be done. . .
I've checked some EULAs. . .

Ben, Mark and It's me did a great job with the downloading.

My part is taking longer than I thought it would (story of my life) but
we *are* getting there.

AFAIK Microsoft does not allow redistribution of *anything*. . .

someone please correct me if I'm wrong. . .

I *suspect* we'll have room on the CD for everything that's left after
the necessary omissions - just thought the grand total of MB downloaded
might be of interest. :)

Hi REM,

I haven't gotten to that yet. :) Advice from the group is welcome.

Have a look at DVDSig
http://members.ozemail.com.au/~nulifetv/freezip/freeware/
DVDsig is a files verification software for DVD-ROM, DVD-Video, CD-ROM and
other removable media. It will scan all files and directories of a new disk
compilation and create a list of reliable MD5 file signatures. DVDsig is
small enough to be conveniently included on any disk compilation and offers
immediate, independent verification of the files after burning is
completed. The inclusion of DVDsig along with the signature list it
generates is a simple, quick and effective way of validating your data at
any time and anywhere.

Will do, thanks for the link and info. I was looking at one, but it
was limited in comparison to the shareware version. It was going to be
a bunch of gruntwork. This sounds much better!

AFAIK Microsoft does not allow redistribution of *anything*. . .

In Oz the four main monthly PC mags all include the current version of
MSIE (along with comparable Netscape, Opera, etc.) on their cover CDs
each month. Don't know what arrangements they have with MS though.

Outlook Express shares its EULA with Internet Explorer.
The Internet Explorer license is located in whichever folder
Internet Explorer is installed, named LICENSE.TXT.

Since IE shares MS-OS components which aren't freely
distributable and OE cannot be seperated from the IE
installation, just drop it from our distribution and include
a link on where to find it (just in case *no one* can find
it *anywhere*).

That sounds about right. (The links for *all* programs are on the PL web
pages - which will be included on the CD.)

I'm taking a break from working on the CD and trying to catch up with
the posts I flagged for further attention (respond, save etc.). . .
they were piling up rapidly. . .

Just an FYI for those who are interested:

I've uploaded revised PL2004 pages - I think the program descriptions
and the downloaded programs for the PL2004 CD are pretty much in
agreement now. Whew! ;)

Still have some EULAs to check, authors to write to. . .

If you finish by Tuesday, you may schedule in a nap on that date.
