Openoffice.org 1.1.3?

Funny, no greyed out in my OpenOffice 1.1.1.
I can insert any video or sound to the presentation.
That certainly is weird.

I've experienced the same problem in OpenOffice 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 under
Knoppix 3.3 and Knoppix 3.4

I also tried running a PowerPoint slideshow with sound with OO1.1.1,
and there was no sound (my sound card works fine otherwise under Linux
and Win98).

In PCLinuxOS LiveCD, these menu items weren't greyed out, but didn't
work (nothing happened when I tried to insert an image file).

And now in OO1.1.2 and OO1.1.3 under Windows, the same problem.

I'm stumped!

OpenOffice 1.1 Not Perfect

* Loads slower than MS Office '97
What counts more loading time or reloading times?
After all loading time can speed up using preload.
* Can't load all MS Office documents properly
Better than MS-Office itself (different versions).
I am using it - surrounded by MS-only people - they
don't see any differences, but sometimes they ask me
to recover old doc-files ;-)
* Not very intuitive for people switching from MS Office
For doing what? Writing a letter - no difference.
Writing big documents - under OOo they learn to do it the
right way using templates. They would have to learn that
under MS as well, but there it is really not intuitive.
* Stability problems
That was a good joke.
I can compare that directly by observing my collegues :-)
* Awkward installation
You mean a fast and very intelligent way of installation.
setup -net as admin
setup as user
no change in system libraries, easy update.

I am discouraged because I would love to say "I will save you the $200US and
install Openoffice", and be able to support it. Again, it doesn't take much
time to justify $200.
It justifies if it is the right tool to use (big documents), pdf
converter, doc-recovery, stable use.

Ciao,
Bernd
