Hi Fergus,
FergusPorn won't even supply to the under 50's. We have very striict
membership controls. ;-)

Is that because the stars are over 50 also?

Nick.

Morning Nick,

You must be joking - do you think my clients are cradle snatchers? The
stars are at least 80. They're all as fit as a fiddle and in the prune of
life.

Hi Herfried, How long did it take you to become a MS
MVP? ...Seriously :-|

I was awarded as MVP for my contributions to the German VB Classic and
VB.NET groups in April. I started contributing to the groups in August
2002. I wrote at least one message every day.

;-)))

MCP is something you can pay/learn for. MVPs are "Microsofts Chosen

LOL, There are more MVP's than .NET MCP's Herfried.

In my personal opinion MVP status is a way of microsoft getting people to
help the end users of their software without actually paying them. Your
right about MCP status, you have to pay for it, but it will also hold allot
more weight when applying for jobs.

How does one become an MVP?

ooor you could become an MCSD! That costs quite a little bit more than MCP
(But you become an MCP after you pass any of the exams anyway). I'm going
to be booking in for my exams soon, I'll probably fail a load but there's no
harm in trying :-)

The movie was the Full Monty,

And as for children in the group, and they are softare developers, you
*really* think they don't know what porn is?

=)

Oops, this thread now has grown beyond control.... too deep to navigate...

In MY VIEW, MVP( the real one chaps !! ) has more value than an MCP or MCSD
because to become an MVP it needs a very sustained effort and patience and
also tells a bit about you as a person.

CJ,

That is was the Full Monty.

My daughter is 12 and she is very active on Internet, do you think that I
believe she never sees a porn site. (Although I know that when she sees it
she closes it, they talk about sex openly on school)

I am originally from Amsterdam, did you been there on the streets, you don't
have to look at Internet; it's totally open in the shop-window.

But I am from Holland, you know, we don't bother about that, for most people
(not all) it's just a normal part of life. But my idea is, to watch that I
don't bring my norms here in this newsgroup too others who have a different
idea about it.

That is the reason that I take a little bit back in discussions where porn
is involved. If there were only Europeans watching this newsgroup, it would
be totally different for me.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying being an MVP is not valuable, I'm just
saying that in the eyes of an employer being a volunteer Microsoft technical
supporter doesn't hold as much weight as being fully qualified. To be MCSD
certificated you need to take 5 exams, so you need to have a rather broad
range of developing with Microsoft development tools and the like.

Do you think that you can become an MCSD with little or no effort then? It
wouldn't do you much good if you did, imagine getting a job as head .NET
developer of a company because you are MCSD certificated just for them to
find out that you blagged it?

Nick.

I think it's hard to compare MVP to MSCD. MVP is an award, you can "win"
for sharing knowledge and helping others (you are awarded for the _social_
component and the technical component of the work), on the other hand MSCD
isn't an award. It's a title you can get by taking an exam and pay for it.
MSCD will tell the employer, that person X had certain technical skills at
time Y. MVP will tell the employer, that the person is willing to share his
knowledge and do work without getting money for it.

;-)

I am student, not a programmer. I don't need MCP and MVP.

Don't be so modest Herfried, your an experienced highly skilled programmer!
Big yourself up a little ;-)

Nick.
