I know, that is a problem, but freedom does require little
knowledge.

Maybe that's why the government schools turn out subjects
and not citizens.

Judging from quite a bit of the reading I do, I don't believe the schools teach
any aspect of grammar, spelling or punctuation.

Too many public school and college teachers are far too busy spouting Socialism
to bother with anything as ordinary as the basics.

Perhaps true for college professors, but save your bile with regard to
school teachers. Most I know are good people trying to raise other people's
kids while simultaneously fending off brain-vacant and politically motivated
administrators.

One wonders just how far off-topic this thread may venture.

We can always see :-).

I'm not a teacher, but I spent two years going into a big public high
school helping a high school newspaper program and I found a politically
correct morass where teachers let students watch Oprah for credit. Even I
was amazed. The problem is not the kids, it is the system set up by the
folks running public education. Yes, there are MANY dedicated, underpaid
teachers out there, but the system is, by and large, broken. A big part of
the problem is lack of parenting, but trust me, if the majority of parents
were involved and cared, the public school system would be replaced.
