Oh, the BLOAT! New PCs are so slow!

This appears to be an Inspiron 1100 which has shared video memory -- you
don't get 256MB program memory which is really the minimum to run
smoothly with WinXP. So I'm not surprised that it runs as slow as
probably a better line of Latitude with 128MB. Processor hardly matters
in this case.

Actually, that's not true. The Inspiron 1100 has it's own dedicated graphic
memory on the Intel extreme graphic controller that is independent of the
system memory.

There are a few other elements to the equation also.

Laptop hard drives are slow.... 4200 RPM in the Inspiron...7200RPM in
your typical home built desktop. Also, you'll typically have a bit
more memory and a faster video card in your desktop.

I have a 2yr old laptop with a 5400rpm drive.
As you noted, all of the software startup junk should go but also be
aware that the biggest slowdown of them all is the Window Updates!
If you do a clean install, notice how fast windows starts up, how
fast Internet explorer starts. Then do you windows update and watch
your computer startup and IE startup slow to a crawl.

And then add anti-virus, firewall, anti-spam and whatever else you need
to secure your system and watch it slow even more. There are times when they
wrap a bunch of updates into one patch and that sometimes seems to help, but
patch on top of patch is really a problem.

Less ****ing bots, less bloat. Michael Dell is an old joo fart.

He's also a billionaire, which is more then you are bucko.

Just because you "take a helicopter to work" does not make one better

Not really if you use some of it with care and concern for others. The

Cleveland Clinic Foundation for research on a rare type brain cancer.
One of his daughters died at 9 years of age more then 20 years ago with
that type of cancer.

I just wish that Bill Gates supported the Bill of Rights,

Amendment II
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state,
the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

Why, on earth, would Bill Gates be concerned with that?

And all the better if one learns that people are people and avoids uttering
racist remarks (such as the OP) the short time in which we are here. Life
is like the game monopoly, in the end it *all* goes back in the box. (the
physical stuff, that is).

You have two to many commas, it was adopted with only one...
A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of
a free state,
the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be
infringed

The first parts says why and the second part defines the
right. Sometime in the past 100 years or so, somebody began
to alter the punctuation.

With three commas it can be read as ...A well regulated
militia shall not be infringed. But since the militia is
fully recognized in the body of the Constitution and the
Bill of Rights was intended to protect individual rights
that make no sense at all.

In 1950 the World Book had one comma in the amendment. By
1965 they had switched to two. The Britannica made a switch
a few years ago. For some reason, new editions of history
texts changed the punctuation. Congress did not send any
amendments to the States and there has been no
ratifications. But the Constitution has been changed by
what/who?

Who cares? It's off-topic!

Yeah but don't say that in here because Dell is selling systems with 128MB
and that *has* to be OK. And if 128MB is OK then 256MB is way too much.
