You should go straight to GUI login, seems something is up there.

try typing 'start X' (without the quotes) and you should then receive a prompt for user name and password.

I've only just come back to this thread, good to see Mucks is helping you out, did you manage to disable power management and screen saver?

It really is worth reading This JEM Report and going through all those recommendations, it gives you an idea how packages are downloaded, installed and applied.

OK, doing that now - its weird it accepted my user name and password ok....

What do you have to do to re-loggin after a session?

Edit: just read the previous 2 posts - too late now I've re-booted:thumb:

... you do nothing 'cos you set auto-login on ... it should have just restarted.

;)

It seems to have re-booted and working OK:thumb:

Right then, I will have to get out of auto-login - any ideas how to do that?

I'm on auto-login.

I auto login to user one (the only user) 'tony' which is me.

I do not auto log-in as root though, I have to enter root password to carry out any functions as root.

That's kinda normal ain't it?

The settings are in the KDE control centre System Admin / Login Manager ... Go to the "Convenience" tab and
deselect "Automatic login" and that should do it. ;)

Phew, thought we were in for a re-install ... :D been there seen it done it

Yes auto login is a default ... but I don't care for that ... seen too many asking how to "fix" their login ... others have other opinions. ;)

I cannot prove it, but I would bet if auto-login was OFF ... Ady would not have had a problem. :D

Just my oppinion. :)

Well I will give it a go, then try it again - I can always go back to auto-login again if necessary..:)

Fair do's Mr Mucks, but all is working Ok, so I'll leave things be.

Thanks for feedback :)

You know what I'm like ... I have this "thing" about security.

I'm the only person here ... and I log-in if I ever restart. :o

Well what do you know Mucks - I've cancelled the auto-login , specified myself as a preselected user and checked Focus Password, changed the login backgroundfrom none to SuSE-kdm and logged out of the session.

Hey presto I now get the nice login screen with my username already in, and I just enter my password and off I go - magic!

Cheers Mucks:thumb:

I think thats enough for today - my head hurts:D

Mine too ... ;)

Check Bionc is still working ... easy way (for me) is to use KSysGuard, I'll let you find it. :p

Congratulations! :D

I hope the transition is relatively stress free... ;)

Haha, I know that feeling :D

When I'm not actually using Suse (which I am more and more now) and I have to configure stuff in there, I only do that once every few days, cos it actually mentally exhausts me, lol

But, so far, it's been very satisfying.

If it wasn't for the web and people's help though, I'd be lost, tbh

Right, I want to copy a CD (audio CD) in Suse 10, anybody know how I do that?
