The best thing to do is to return it to the store and get a Canon.
The new IP4300 has been seen as low as $59.95 on sale with rebate.

This is not a "for sale" group. Pitch your ads for Canon printers in the
appropriate newsgroups.

Oh yeah! That idiot meashershithead (loser) doesn't like it when
somebody else recommends a product but he does it all the time. He has
left a really bad taste about Canon products in the mouths of many who
post here. He has done more to give them a bad name than any of their
products.
He is an incompetent jackass.

Greetings Malcolm,

Just a note on a suggestion made by the top engineer for the printer. It is
his guess that you might have plugged in the USB cable for the printer
before installing the software. This would force the installation of an
incorrect driver.

The error code that was offered is not a Kodak related error code. We can
see the codes in your log file but you will see only text (more meaningful
to you).

I suggest you try a couple of things.

Uninstall all of the Kodak software and remove the drivers that were
installed for the scanner/printer. Once you are sure they have been removed,
reinstall the software completely. Once all is finished, plug the 5100 USB
connection into your machine.

Things should work. We'll see. Good Luck, Malcolm, let us know how you make
out.

Best Regards,

Ron Baird

Hi Ron,

I am sure I did not plug in the USB cable before the installation. I
will try this again just to be on the safe side.

Thanks

Like I said, the Canon IP4300 was last seen at $59.95. Epson makes the
best scanner. The combination will give you the best service. Canon
has the best software. Epson scanner (outsourced) is not the greatest
but it does serve the purpose and does not pose problems.

You can probably return the Kodak to best buy

You don't get it yet, the Kodak is a fine printer and I like it. I am
just working on a scanner problem which is not unusual in new products
hardware or software.

Meashershithead has repeatedly been warned about using this ng to
promote the sale of canon products. That is a clear violation of Usenet
rules and an abuse of this ng.
His ISP will now start hearing about his flagrant violations.
He is already on thin ice with them.
Email complaints go to:
(e-mail address removed)
They know who he is and will not tolerate any more of his problems.

Oh yeah...I too send an email. If he continues, his ISP will get tons of
email.
Thanks.

Kind of a drag that if you Google for reviews the PopPhoto review
shows up all over the place because of all the sites that don't have
(much of) their own content but put other sites' reviews on their
pages. Engadget, Shopwise, and a slew of sites I'd never even heard
of make it seem like there's 80 negative reviews of the thing and just
about every single one of them was the same PP review pasted on
another site.

Too bad there isn't much else out there yet to balance it out. I'm
looking forward to Jeff at PrinterSpot finally getting a review up.
It's odd when there's an interesting product shipping, and there's
lots of interest and curiosity, but the reviews (aside from users)
haven't made it out.

Hi Folks,

I just bought one of these Kodak printers and I can't get it to scan a
document. I get "Error Code 1 - 2007" and "twaingui.exe has caused a
problem and must quit" and just plain "an error has caused scan to
abort". I installed from the web on the first try and then uninstalled
and reinstalled from the CD, same problems both times. I can hear the
scanner going but it never completes. I have followed the manual but
no joy. The printer is fine. I am running Windows XP SP2 with all
updates installed. I have an AMD Athlon 1.3 gig CPU with 512M of
SDRAM. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

I spoke with Kodak support today regarding the scanner problem and
they are aware of the problem and are working on a fix.

I've discovered that my scanner works fine with the Windows Scanner
and Camera Wizard, just not with the supplied Kodak software. I'm
assuming they will post an update on their website once they work out
a fix. Overall, I really like this printer. Print quality on photos is
better than the HP 8250 that I previously used.

The problem with Kodak is the same as Microsoft and all of the other
companies who ship software. The ship it without adequate testing and
also with knowledge that there are still bugs in the system.

Ok so some users do not believe this. Well just stop applying all of
the security patches for your OS and see what will happen.

Other than this the other mistake Kodak made is by not marketing a
printer. Some people want to choose their scanner (like an Epson) and
keep the scanner and printer independent of each other.

Greetings David,

Glad to hear you are enjoying your new printer.

I am concerned to hear, however, that you are getting an error message as
noted. Our team will be investigating this issue and as soon as there is a
fix I will get back to you.

As you guessed, new firmware and software is always under review and
creation as new information is found. Most software programs that are out
there including most OS's are living programs and are always being improved.

You can watch for such changes by visiting our site from time to time.

Talk to you soon,

Ron Baird

This is not a commercial forum for Kodak tech support. I have nothing
against Kodak selling ink at half price if it is any good (no reviews
yet) but it is not proper for a Kodak representive to do Public
Relations, Tech Support, Advertising, or sales in this forum. The
appropriate forum is the Kodak site. It is very obvious that you are
representing Kodak on this forum.

It may not be a commercial forum, but it is about Kodak printers. If
people can get first hand information on how they work, or problems
with them, from the people in the know, we should be glad to have
them. Some times it's impossible to get it even when you contact these
companies directly. I would rather have his advise than from people
who know nothing about them.
