Just a quicky...

They are really REALLY bad quality - trust me!!

Nope not sold that machine yet. I want to so much.

I agree i was being a bit stupid asking for so much so have decided to reduce price a fair whack

I have a 2.53 Ghz Intel machine with 512 MB Corsair Low latency PC2700 DDR Ram and 180 GB of hard disk space (60PATA and 120SATA). NEC ND-2500A, Plextor 12/10/32, Asus 16x DVD Rom, Microsoft Joystick, MX700 Logitech Cordless Mouse,Logtech Elite Wireless keyboard, Samsung IFT Monitor

Do you approve my machine?

I do not play games on this machine, I upgraded it for my son, now 14 who used to but he has progressed to the Xbox, a 29 inch Pixel Plus TV and does not want to come back! :D

Thanks for the pics, I am convinced!

I am convinced too :)

I can use the excuse that this game will help with my university course :) hehe

What is your graphics card [quaddy]

What is your university course [ian]

seems like i just successfully advertised a microsoft product...

best $45 i ever spent though... takes up ove 4gb on 4cd's - big ol game

lol hmm...would anyone like to buy a computer, games, software and XP home for £777.77?

spec changed too - its now 2x 80Gb SATA drives in Raid 0

you going to learn to fly at all? I am going to be a commercial airline pilot when i grow up. Thats if i ever grow up...

I'd like to learn to fly one day, eventually! I know most of the technical aspects now, and how to design them etc... but there isn't much actual flying on the couse (other than in the flight simulator).

DuUuUuUuUuUuUuUuUuDE

you get to use the flight simulators?

they aren't by any chance made by a company named rediffusion simulation are they? What aircraft type are they?

You will laugh if I tell ya what vga card I have :D

I know you are giggling, I told you I do not play games and this was the last thing I was to upgrade but as I explained it is no more a gaming machine. I just need 2D and Matrox is great for that.

Will upgrade if required.

Just spent £300 on CD'S/SACD's and DVD's

umm...somehow i dont think your going to be very impressed when it comes to loading flight simulator.

My CPU clocked at 3.2GHz 930fsb or something
Ram clocked at 460MHz Cas 2.5
9800 pro GPU at 435/350
SATA Raid 0

that just runs it on high settings - anything lower and you will have single digit framerates and poor quality textures.

I cant remember the name of the Company - its called the Merlin Flight Simulator. It has an A320, Learjet and a Cessna 152 - a few others too probably.

We used it quite a bit in the last few weeks, I was the designated pilot for our group :)

yeah - damn right - Matrox are the cream of the crop for 2d stuff but in games they really just can't cut the mustard.

Ian thats awesome - how do you find the control stick on the A320 compared to the flight yoke of the cessna and lear? personally i would hate the idea of having to fly with my left hand - not as accurate. Saying that, Airbus are totally fly by wire so any flying can be done via the autopilot and when you come to the approach, i guess all you do is type in the ILS frequency of the designates runway, turn on the flight director, auto throttles and AP1 switched in the autopilot panel, sit back, relax and fall asleep as the onboard computer follows the approach, lowers the gear, puts the nose gear on the centre line, applies reverse thrust and hits the brakes!

im scared about all this - i think pilots should be the ones to fly the exciting bits. Its getting to seem like the levels of fun are dropping!!

I ask if its rediffusion because my dad was contracting for the company in 1992 (when i lived in the states for 6 months) He was the one that programmed the instructor stations on such simulators and if you ever use one, you'll probly be using his software! think he did 757's, 737's etc etc. I know that british midland use one - it was on TV the other day - dad recognised it from 12 years ago!

flog your machine and buy mine :P

no just kidding lol

i reccomend nothing less than a 9800 pro - you can pick one up (usually powercolor or sapphire) from Aria.co.uk for under £140 inc VAT so thats not too bad.

Wow, thats impressive! I dont think our simulator is that advanced, it is a flexible multi-role type. You do seem to know your stuff about aircraft!

I also don't like the small sidestick, I find it very hard to get used to and I used to be prone to overcompensating for rolls when using it. I am used to using this for control now, although I do still prefer the flight yoke - its just 'feels' better!

thankyou sir!

Well you do learn your stuff when using the game because its so real the US Navy have to complete 27 hours of flight training on it before they are let loose in real ones!!

Yeah you will probably find that if you centre the column just before you complete the turn it will turn a little extra as the ailerons retract back into the wing. This is true especially at low speeds as you have your flaps/slats/spoilers extended so any turn using the ailerons will be slower and also creates some sideways yaw as you pull out of the turn - throwing you way off the glideslope if you are turning onto final from your base.

The flight yoke is so much easier to use - its just so much more suited to a plane! Thats why i prefer the 777 series to the A320,330,340 as it is still Fly By Wire however still has the traditional style yoke.

i wonder how this will appear - a url to a screenshot - if IE compacts it like it usually does then it looks naf but if not its a cool pic.
