How the nickname Swansea Jack began

Hi itsme
Many thanks for the pics - certainly reminded me of a book I read recently - 'Swansea at War' by Sally Bowler.
The Lewis Lewis pic in High Street reminded me of the lane up
to Alexander Road ? - the library, then across the road to climb
the hills , the last one has a seat at the top (would need it now!) to Short St, turning right into my home in Watkins St.
Hope to print off the pics with the maze of wires and boxes I have here.
Thanks agaoin

I have some of your old school will post them when I find them.

Did you know a family sir-name Peters?

I suppose it`s because "English" is not a country it`s a language,a bit like Welsh is the language but Wales is the country etc, etc.

i live in the sandfields area....thats by the old swansea football ground the Vetch....since the vetch closed, the rows of terraced houses have become a buy to let fiasco, and there are more tennants rather than homeowners....the pubs are deralict or in need if a bit of dulux care.....you try getting planning permission to put up a greenhouse or a fence and they pummell you, but it's okay to rip up every street in the town centre to build a dedicated road system of a 60ft long bendy bus......I blame Jack the dog

How the nickname Swansea Jack began

Yes!
Played in the FA cup, early sixties, were in the second division
and they in the first. I was behind the goal, town end in the first -half
when we had a headed goal which was ruled out - quite rightly.
Finished nil-nil. Then we lost away - I think 3-1.
1964 - kept drawing away (Huddersfield, Stoke?) then winning at home
. Saw these replays. Then Liverpool away in the 6th round. My uncle went up to
see it - we won 2-1. His mini was trashed outside the ground (Swansea reg)but it was driveable.
Played Preston in the semi-final at a completely bogged Villa Park and lsot 2-1.
West Ham beat Preston in the final - 3-2.
Cheers

Hi Whisper
I'm afraid my old Watkins Street has the same problem. My uncle had to get rid of his car because as as soon as he went down to the town to get his
shopping in the morning the street filled up with parking from the old technical college (were I got my HNC Engineering) and he could not park anywhere in the street. He now catches the bus to town and back, he has a bus pass, but the bus often cannot get through due to the parking.
I can remember when the only car in the whole street belonged to Jack Watts, who had the grocer's shop just opposite my home at No 39.
Cheers
