You need what are called Low Profile PCI cards.
The items you see for sale, may say "Low Profile", but you also have
to check that the correct faceplate for the card is included with
the product.
For example, I got a parallel port card the other day, and it comes
with a full height faceplate, as well as a low profile faceplate. The
card itself is low profile, but you can put either of the two faceplates
on, so it will fit a regular or a small (low profile) computer case.
The only problem with that, is the screw holes on the faceplate aren't very
accurate. When I installed the faceplate, the card wouldn't work. I
had to loosen the screws and shift the faceplate a bit, so that
the card connector could bottom out in the motherboard slot. After
that, on the next power-up, it worked.
So a warning, to check that if using low profile cards, that the
mechanical details are correct and in good order. Some motherboard
connector standards are intolerant of connector positioning, and the card
or slot can be damaged if the card doesn't seat fully in the slot.
