Freeware to Replace My Linksys Router?

ost of the little hardware routers sold lately have a built in 4-8 port
switch. One ethernet port for the cable or dsl modem to plug into - this is
called the wan side, and typically 4 ports on the LAN side to plug in 4
cables.

Yep like my Linksys piece of trash.
Since I was having problems with my router, I stopped using the wan side of
the router and had that modem running to the "RED" interface on my new
smoothwall box. I then have a cable running from the "GREEN" side of the
smoothwall box to the LAN side of my router which the rest of my computers
are hooked up to either directly or though yet another switch upstairs.

So basically, the router switches packets from one computer to another. See:

LOL....better yet, tape the whole popsicle (and forget those rancid,
syrupy, adult novelty flavorings) and watch the testicals shrivel while
orally racing the melting frozen treat--unless, of course, the goal is
to make a sticky mess. May want to do a little shaving before the game,
though--gotta take that tape off eventually.
