Compatible inks OK for iP4000?

Nearly all of the bulk aftermarket inks are perfectly fine to use for
refilling. I've been a long time user of Formulabs ink and have recently
started using HobbiColors. Both inks are excellent and WILL NOT cause any
problems with clogging despite the lies that our resident newsgroup troll
continually spreads. Other inks such as from MIS and Weink also receive
excellent recommendations from experienced and knowledgeable users.

Without getting into a debate over the wisdom of using third party
ink, I'm curious as to the purely economic justification.

Do you complain because you can buy a $ 60 DVD player, but after
buying 4 movies on DVD you've spent as much as the hardware cost?
How many loaves of bread have you run through the toaster without
considering whether off-brand generic slices would make the bread
and toaster costs more equitable?

It sounds to me like you'd be happier if the manufacturers charged
$ 500 for the printer so the OEM ink would seem like a bargain.

A complete set of genuine Canon cartridges at Wal-Mart in Canada go for
about $125 CDN.

I can refill a complete set of cartridges using bulk ink for only $5.

Pre-filled compatibles go for between about $4 to $8 CDN each ($20 to
$40 for a set)

Which part of this lesson in economics don't you understand?

IF IT RUINS YOUR PRINTER YOU DID NOT SAVE ANYTHING.

MAYBE $200 MIGHT BE FAIR WITH AN OVERSIZED INK CART AT $4.00

Do you purposely go out and buy the most expensive DVDs you can find or do
you shop around for a bit of a bargain? Likewise, do you always buy the most
expensive bread there is; knowing full well that the cheaper brands are
likely to be made out of exactly the same ingredients?

Most of us would be happier if manufacturers charged a more realistic price
for their hardware so they didn't need to charge a small fortune for ink in
an attempt at recouping the profit they lost selling the printer at a loss
in the first place.

Yep! Well said Anna and exactly what we're talking about.
Can you say razor/blade?
Same thing.

Ecconomic justification. It's not like a $60 DVD player and 4 movies
that cost $20/pop. It's more like if you had a choice between movies
at $20/pop or $2.00/pop.

Doing the math which I won't get into... You can buy a $30 to $60 kit
with a bunch of ink equilivent to $200 of OEM ink. Whether you spent
$100 or $500 on the printer you have a choice between $12/pop, $5/pop
or under $2.00/pop.

if it ruins your printer you did not save anything

Yes you did. This is canon after all which a dead head = $60 to $80
bucks in the states, typicaly 1/2 to 2/3 the MSRP of a printer.

On an ip4000 you spend about $60.00 for a full set of OEM ink. Perhaps
as low as $55.00 if find the inks on sale or buy Costco bulk cartridges
when taking tax into account. But $60.00 is reasonable if you go to
your local office store.

A refill kit will cost less than $60 and for a small kit will give you
4 color refills and two black refills. worth about $200 in OEM ink.
Given a refill kit will run you $30 to $60, we're talking savings of
over $100.

A typical prefilled deal @ $5.00 each cartridge = $25 for the set,
which you save about $35 each time. If you make it to three
replacements of each tank, you saved enough to replace the head without
loss, the even printer if sold for under MSRP.

We've been over this. The economics make perfect sense. There are
good reasons to go with OEM ink but economics doesn't enter into the
picture.

But if it doesn't (and it won't) you saved a lot. Pretty simple, huh?
but it probally will

No, it probally won't. I can say i've used about 2oz of ink per tank
on my ip3000 and I don't have a clog.

Aahhhh...here we have a perfect example of a sane person (Smarter than
Measly) trying to have a logical, intelligent conversation with an
insane person (measershithead aka inkystinky).
Simply won't happen because the insane person has no grasp on reality.
That reality being that he has never used after market inks and knows
nothing at all about them. Or the fact that most persons posting here
have YEARS of perfect (no problems at all) usage of after market inks.
