Hello,

Fergus Cooney said:
Christoph said to me that if <he> had the time he'd
do something about it, or maybe someone else could?

He sent me a request for helping him to write a .NET add in some days ago...
I think he's too busy reading Terry Pratchett. ;-)

Hello,

Christoph mentioned having to install it with the VB6
plug-in but I'm not sure what he means. Do you run
it within VB6 or standalone?

The tool is really good, but it is buggy too... I use the 2002 version
(really old one) and it works perfect for me, but I didn't install the
plug-ins for the VB Classic IDE.

I think Fergus reads newsgroup articles...

Well thanks for clearing that one up, I was actually referring to books,
story books to be exact. I was going to mention a favourite author of mine
called Robert Rankin, he writes the funniest books around...

Dance of the voodoo handbag
The raiders of the lost car park
The garden of unearthly delights
Snuff fiction

To name but a few classic reads!

Nick.

Thanks again Herfried, you are being most helpful. Strangely enough I am
fully aware of this, I have both!

Maybe your just having fun correcting me? Whatever turns you on mate ;-)

Zzz...

;-)))

And also Herfried,

Just for your information, was their any need for me to suffix the word
"Outlook" with the word "Express" when Fergus was referring to a problem
with posting to a newsgroup? "Outlook" does not support newsgroups, only
"Outlook Express" does.

Oh those hairs are splitting!, splitting so much that you're going to
need a wig if your not careful! ;-)

Yep... That's exactly what I thought, but I was not sure if Outlook 2003
supports ngs.

Hi Nick,

|| Do you read Fergus?

Most nights I curl up in bed with a good Fergus.

|| Do you read Fergus?

I do, as it happens. I've read all that Plato, Aristotle, Satre,
Kierkegaard, Kant, James, Feynman, Russell, et al have to offer. Now I'm into
Fergus. Heavy stuff. Mind blowing!!

|| Do you read Fergus?

I have very selective tastes - only certain "rare material".

Fergus

I'm not sure, I have 2002. I hope that they do introduce it, it would be a
nice complete touch to outlook, then bye bye to OE.

Hi Fergus,
Most nights I curl up in bed with a good Fergus.

Oh, I've heard of that "author", I thought he was a publisher of
pornographic magazines or something? Best place to curl up with one I
suppose eh? ;-)

:-) Ever heard of Robert Rankin, I feel that you would probably like his
humour (though I may be wrong). Maybe try reading "Raiders of the lost
carpark" or "Dance of the voodoo handbag", 2 of the many Robert Ranking
classics, not to be confused with the psychological author "Ian Rankin" of
course.
I have very selective tastes - only certain "rare material".

Like...

"Bangkok chick babes monthly"
"Famers and their animals"
"Gardeners and their vegetables"
"Geks and their computers" < One of Herfrieds all time favourites ;-)
j/k

LOL

Right on, bro!!

Although in fairness to Herfried. I know where he's coming from. There was
at time when I felt that compulsion to correct and qualify. I still feel it
but now as an urge rather than a compulsion. It has taken time to realise that
pointing out the correct way is actually irrelevant to 90% of people and the
other 10% are only interested to see whether I make a mistake so they can
correct <me>. [I'm playing that game a bit with Herfried at the moment, eh
Herfried? ;-)]

Correctnes is a high value for me and also for Herfried. It does get in
the way sometimes. Herfried will ask for clarification on a point that his
intuition <knows> is right. Aber the need to be klar is sehr stark (v.
strong). There's one thing that's certain, though, Nick. In no way is Herfried
getting at you. It's his need to see and express clarity even to the point of
annoying you. The key point here, Herfried, is that it is <your> need and the
benefit to Nick is marginal at best.

Like I say, I know this because that was me and it took time and time
again for the realisation to overcome the habit - I had to stop feeding the
desire for correctness in all ways at all times. With me it comes through in
my typing. I can't stand to allow typos to get through, and I hate seeing them
in other's postings. But that's <my> issue. I've learnt to impose it on others
only when necessary or when I'm too tired to hold it back.

Herfried, I reckon you'll understand what I'm saying but in the words of
Robert Heinlein - "Waiting is 'til fullness groks".

Regards, both,
Fergus

Is Nick really annoyed about that? Sometimes I make a little joke and
forget to mark it as a joke, sometimes I make a correction for my/the
readers' clarity.

Hi Fergus,

I do agree with everything you just wrote, 100%. I just feel that I have
used the newsgroup long enough now to not recieve any flak from the
"die-harders" just for asking a question. But fair enough, if he feels that
he needs to correct me, do not get me wrong, I am in no way *personally*
offended, I do not know Herfried *personally* to get so.

I have obsevered quite a cocky attitude from Herfried lately, one
springs to mind quite clearly...

N: Thanks Herfried :-)
H: I hope it helped. I searched for "URLUnencoded" in the MSDN libarary.
Maybe you can do that yourself in future.

I mean, what was the point in that one? I thought it was unneccsarry,
Herfried did appologise, which I didn't actually acknowledge, mainly because
I felt that my integrity was being questioned, so I thought it best to let
it lie. Fair enough, but I have got some pretty clear points to make about
this.

* I program as much as I can each day and always attempt to complete
"tasks" myself
* If I find someone elses code that would come in useful, or
essential, I rewrite it from the ground up so that I can learn how it works,
I don't just copy and paste, I refuse to.
* I search Google for answers to my questions first
* I even consult the VB documentation, which is by no means the best
of documentation!
* I now use the newsgroup as a last resort

I'm thinking to myself that things have got a little too personal here
and I would have preferred them to have stayed professional, I have noone
else to ask the *serious* questions to as I don't even know anyone else that
can program at the precise moment in time. So I will continue to use this
newsgroup as I have always done, if Herfried thinks that I am over using it
then he need not reply to my questions, just remember Herfried, you started
somewhere too.

There was a saying I heard once which I always thought was pretty true,
it went something like

"Those who can, do"
"Those who can't, teach"

This by no means is a reference to anyone here, just one of my
*personal* beliefs. I appologuise if *I* have upset or offended anyone
recently, including you Hefried, my problem tends to be that if I am bitten,
I *almost* always bite back, I just can't help it. Now I'm going to take my
knackered eyeballs to bed, my eyesight is getting quite poor! :-p

Lol. My first fortune wasn't in computers, but you seem to know that
already. ;-))

|| Ever heard of Robert Rankin,

The name rings a bell (and I don't just mean from your other post). But I
don't think I've had the pleasure yet. Definitely to be checked out. :-)

|| "Raiders of the lost carpark"

Sounds highly promising.

|| "Geeks and their computers"

I've got some really hot back-issues from the days before the prudish
modern fashion for covering up with cases. Just the bare minimum of a couple
of knobs on the panel. Pure raw exposed circuitry - wide open with all the
wiring dangling free. Power supplies throbbing (well on the video anyway).

Hi Nick,

<rant>
Yes, and then it can be automated to seek out my own posts, download them
and mark them as read. It's <such> a pain. And my post to the Outlook groups
about same issue - not even a "sorry, can't help you"!!

Hi Nick,

|| "Those who can, do"
|| "Those who can't, teach"

Grrr. I ripped into Jeremy because he had a footer very similar to this.
It's a personal hated saying of mine. I don't know why, maybe something to do
with both my parents having been teachers and of the offspring, I, despite not
being a teacher by profession *, am <very much> a teacher. It's in the blood
and needs to be expressed.

However, I like you too much to take offense from your belief, I just
think it's a shame. There <are> teachers who let the side down and are clearly
in the profession as a refuge. I think the funding issue has its part in the
scheme of things too. But we won't get into all that.

I do understand, though, that nearly 50% of teachers are below average.
It's a shocking statistic. Something should be done about it.

Regards, (and I <do> mean regards),
Fergus

ps. No offense taken, so no apology required. :-)

Yup, I actually went to the worst school in the country at the time, which
was nice, probably why I have no faith in teachers, but yes I agree that
there are some exceptional ones out there, my uncle teaches maths in the
Bahamas, very intelligent guy. Good that you took no offence, as none was
meant and so on and so fourth and such like.

I won't quote it again, don't worry, just because I said it was something I
believed does not mean it is something that I will *always* believe, I have
just had the wrong exposure to teachers unfortunately. But I'll easily
change my opinions, I'm not a dinosaur, but saying that I was wondering
where that huge egg came from :-\
