It looks interesting; I'm not installing it tonight cos it says it
wants to update my system files. :-(

I've used it for months, without anything to arouse my suspicion or my ire.
It has a built-in password data base that I frequently use, also.

Alas - the download link (as noted above) gives me a "connection
refused" response and I didn't spot another link to that version (I
didn't look *real* hard).

I got through, but...

Folder Lock Version: 4.385

"Benefits of Registering:
The trial version of Folder Lock allows you to use the program 15
times. To continue using it on a permanent basis, you will need to
order the full version. After purchasing and registering the full
version, you will receive life-time upgrades at no charge, $14 worth
of bonus gifts, and a master key that can be used in case of lost
passwords/files. Folder Lock is an excellent value because all future
upgrades are free. Normally these programs sell for $40 or more, but
if you order today, you can get it for $39.98 $25 (limited offer)."

This sounds like it might be a candidate for one of the "last freeware
version" sites. Do you know if the file can it be distributed?

It looks like it will be a version previous to Version: 4.385.

NOT true. Truecrypt (WinXP, 2000, NT) http://www.truecrypt.tk/ will make
containers 2GB and larger. Scramdisk (Win95, 98,ME)
http://www.scramdisk.clara.net/ will make containers as large as 2 GB.

Lock Folder v5.0 should do what you want
http://www.realclicks.com/LockFolder/LockFolder.exe
The original Lock Folder has changed it's name to Folder Access and can
only lock 4 folders.

A word of warning. I used LockFolder until one day it refused to unlock a
locked folder. Luckily I had backed up the files elsewhere, otherwise they
would have been lost. I think the problem was caused by using System
Restore, but I consider it a risky program, which I have discarded.

Thanks REM. Perhaps someone else will post a link to a LFW version.

Dratted "bait and switch" authors -> release apps as freeware then
change the link to a trialware/shareware version. . . without changing
the description. . . :(

I once locked a folder with Paranoid that contained loads of sub
folders, one of which was my, er, Paranoid folder.

How I larfed...

I think all folder/file security apps need to be treated with care.

who are you - the news group policeman?

The method of presentation was snide, but it would indeed be kind of you
to snip much more conservatively. When you have limited bandwidth, things
like this can unnecessarily eat it up. Thanks.

I am the author of AxCrypt and just noticed this thread, and I think
that labelling AxCrypt as a joke may be a slightly harsh judgement.

I agree. I use it and it works well. (Svante, did you see that bug report
about TXTs and RTFs not opening in their associated programs?)

Hello,

(snip)

Yes, I've seen it (the full bug report is here:
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1016467&group_id=40359&atid=427798
- according to this AxCrypt launches the original applications rather
than custom assigned applications)

I will investigate and fix if required, but it's not the highest
priority at the moment - I will look into this in October.

All right, thanks. Great program, I say!
