I really knew you though that OEM has the best qualtiy and is the best
and most convenient (norefilling). So you would rather pay $6.50 than
the dollar you are now claiming for the good stuff.

Yes, based on nonexistent cartridge prices, and not refill.

Drop OEM cartridges prices by $60 CAD (a set) and I'll still refill.

Right now the difference in quality is minute; but the difference in
price is astronomical - about $100 versus $5 a set (in Canadian
dollars).

And your best suggestion is a ridiculous "measekite" plan to save
consumers a whole $1.50 per cartridge. Bravo!!! You call that a savings?
My CURRENT savings save me $95!!!!!... enough to pay for the next 3
refill kits... which will then save enough money to buy the next 9
refill kits... which will then save enough to buy the next 27 kits...
will will save enough money to buy the next 81 refill kits. It's
exponential in savings over OEM costs!!!!

You make a very valid point measekite. If your only income is mowing
lawns and shoveling snow, you would have to mow 6 lawns and get paid
CAD$20 each just to order one set of cartridges for a canon printer in
Canada. To get 4 sets, you'd have to mow 24 lawns, where you would
only have to mow two lawns to order one bulk set from hobbicolors and
still have change, or mow three lawns and order from MIS or atlantic
inkjets and still have change.

I do think the going rate for lawn mowing is $12.50. But in Canada you
can't get one cartridge for mowing a lawn.

Bulk ink, like measkete says you save so much you can have a pizza once
a month and send your kid to prom.

I thought slavery was abolished!

Not entirely true. I actually do cut my sister's lawn for the price of
one OEM cartridge - $20. But I'd have to cut her lawn (and there's quite
a bit) 5 times in order to get a complete set of OEM cartridges. In
other words I'd have to slave for about 6 hours just for a set of
cartridges. That's way, way too much work for "5 ounces of colored water
in a cheap plastic container with no printhead".

Or, I could just tell her to cut her own lawn and instead fill my own
cartridges out of my pocket change (around $5). ;-)

Since you brought up lawn-mowing...

I recently broke the drive belt on the mower deck of my Allis Chalmers
garden tractor. Now even though the brand on the tractor and deck is
Allis Chalmers, I've learned it was actually manufactured by Simplicity,
then painted and relabeled by Allis Chalmers. The nearest Simplicity
dealer that I know of is 60 miles away, and I have no idea where the
nearest Allis Chalmers dealer is. (The dealer this tractor came from
went out of business during the Bush Administration - G.H.W. Bush.)

You see my dilemma. My grass was getting to be over six inches high, and
with all the rain we've had lately it wasn't stopping there. I had to
get a belt, so I went with another OEM - but not the mower's OEM. I
bought a belt from John Deere. (Although I don't think John Deere makes
their own belts, it must be that they are made to Deere's specifications
and according to their patents. Would an American institution lie to the
public? Nothing runs like a Deere!)

The belt seems to be working fine, though I *am* seeing the discharge
chute clogging quite a bit more than usual...

You know there a nice sized belt in your printer, by the way . . . :-)

Great story! Isn't it nice to have the opportunity to use compatibles
and not have to rely on OEM parts all the time - like it was the only
game in town. So what's a little clogging now and then . . . We are
talking about grass, aren't we? ;-)

I have ordered ink from both Atlantic Inkjet and Re-Inks in California. I understand that the latter is the mother company and the former is currently closed. I have found the bulk product to be acceptable, but refilling ink cartridges is not a hassle-free process. I am currently worried because my credit card was recently debited $95 for the last order and it has been more than a month since I got the confirmation that the order was shipped. They did not give me a tracking number and have not answered my emails about non-receipt. I don't know how easy it is to recover charges like this from credit card companies. Certainly, I would encourage use of the web ordering system in preference to phoned in orders.
