Brilliant it worked. Thanks

Unknown errors in Windows Mail are often due to interference from
an antivirus program. What if any antivirus programs do you have?

For a temporary fix, download and install this hotfix, with Windows
Mail not running:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in
other folders. If you don't know whether you have a 32-bit version
of Vista or a 64-bit version, try the hotfix for the 32-bit version first.
This hotfix is also available as past of the Vista SP1 update, but that
takes longer to install.

You're welcome.

However, note that if you keep on using an antivirus program that
caused this problem, you can expect the problem to eventually
come back.

taffy you are my hero. i had tried everything, deleting one by one, switching
mail off, etc. my deleted box was up to 370 emails.

Same problem- can't delete corrupted email in my Windows Mial Outbox.
I disabled my Norton Internet Security Outgoing email scanns (afraid to
disable Incoming scan??)
Then downloaded the Hotfix KB941090 - as per instructions.
Download will not work- installation failure.
Do I need to disable INcoming Email scanns too? For how long?

That Works a treat! I sat on that mail for ages because it just wouldn't
disappear. Thanks heaps!
