Would an 8800 fit?

Got the card today and it fitted perfectly :)

However i think i screwed up with the drivers.

I uninstalled my nivida drivers which were associated with my old card

and when i try to install the 8800's drivers, I get the message:

Couldn't locate any drivers compatible with your software.

I've stupidly rushed into this.:o

I also can't seem to connect to the internet on that computer.

any ideas?

Can you get the drivers via another pc? If so download the 162.18's. Dont be put off by the fact they are betas either. They offer a good boost in performance, and are the best drivers for the 88's so far imo.

Dont use the 'found new hardware' thing just cancel out of it and run the downloaded file about. :)

Then install Ntune.

Then ATI Tool! :D

I've downloaded the drivers to this computer, but i don't know how I can get them to my other computer.

I can't seem to get access to the internet via my other computer.

The drivers that came with the card seem to be not working.

I get that message when I try to install the XP ones.

I also think that when i uninstalled the old display drivers, I uninstalled other drivers as well.

Over the network? USB stick? CD? ;)

One thing at a time.

The drivers that came with the card seem to be not working.
No matter, they will be well out of date.

Which ones? Off the disk?

Other Nvidia ones? Is your boards chipset Nforce? Maybe you uninstalled the chipset drivers, that maybe why your internet access aint working, Lan drivers.... Check your add and remove programs list.

What motherboard?

Yes, that must be right. my network connections aren't showing anything.

add/remove = no trace of any nvidia software.

Motherboard is the K9N SLI board

I'm doing a system restore to how it was yesterday.

oh V_R, thanks for the help ;)

but i can't download the chipset drivers because the internet won't connect on the affected computer!

:D

Download on the other pc? Transfer to the other pc and install?

aha! sys restore worked! :D

all back to normal

now, to install and uninstall everything in the correct order..

thanks V_R, i'll let you know how i get on :D

Good stuff, i had my doubts it would work.

When you uninstall, make sure you pick the DISPLAY DRIVERS ONLY! :p

oh dear,

this time, when i clicked on nvidia drivers, it didn't give me a warning about anything and just completely vanished from the add/remove programs section.

and when i tried to install my previous drivers for the 7950GT, the same error message appeared.

ho hum.

Oh dear....

So your chipset drivers are back?? I didn't think sys restore would reinstall a program......

hmm this is very odd.

I don't even know if I have any drivers on here

should I,

take out my old card

put in the new one

download new drivers you recommended?

You could try, i would like to know if the chipset drivers are deffo installed though....

The chipset drivers, i think must be installed for me to be on here.

I've downloaded and installed them.

now, when i started to run the new drivers (162 ones you gave me) the installation wasn't stopped.

so now, i'm gonna put in the new card and run these new drivers which look as if they work.

note: i haven't installed the new drivers yet.

DONE!

officially all working and installed.

Lesson I learnt;

contain your excitement, take it VERY slowly!

so your on your pc again now?

Good stuff mate, now for some benchmarks!

You got ntune and ATI tool installed?

I got nTune right here, whatcha want me to do with it?
Install it if you want to monitor temps etc. have a look in the Control panel then install it and you will see.

PS for future reference, nvidia say you should uninstall ntune BEFORE you upgrade your vid drivers. :)
