Hi Herfried,

I was there hours ago. Lol. I've done 5,720 posts to test. :-)

Hi Armin,

Hi Herfried,

|| Poor Fergus... you are not even on the list.

ROFL. :-D

I know - it's not fair. I didn't reach the qualifying standard. :-(

Herfried,
Ha... In the German ngs people who do not post with a realname don't
get an answer. I and some others tell them that they should post with a
realname. Some of them change their name into a realname quickly,
others still post with the "nickname". Nevertheless, there were some
folks who needed some time to understand why it's better to post with a
realname.
That is a historic deep difference between the habits from people from the 3
old empiries countries in Europe and the other Europe countries.

It was very efficient to keep track of the people.
But why would we use those old empire despotic standards?
A lot of Dutch are killed by that kind of administrations in the last war.
Since then it's very deep in the Dutch moral to keep that in mind.
I am from after the war, but freedom in every way is the main part of Dutch
thinking and in that I am real Dutch.

The sentence about war is only too illustrate, that is behind us in Europe
happenly, but the lessons that we did learn not.

:-)

Stephany.
Not because I want to win, I am very happenly maried,
But very good of topic answer.

Maybe it's simply a question of politeness whether to tell somebody his
realname of not. If, in the "real world", somebody meets you and says "hi,
I'm xqy", you would say: huh?? So why make a difference here? There is
simply no reason to hide the name - unless the one has been up to something.
This is a "technical" group, not one talking about suicide (just an extreme
example) or other topics that justify a nick name. Apart from that, a nick
name is often childisch because grown-ups usually know that they can be
behind there statements.

This has been discussed over and over again (most people finally understood
why use the realname), so I won't make any further comments on this. ;-) -
and, this does not mean I wanna tell anybody in the group what to do, it's
only the explanation of the "realname-habbit" in the most German groups.

Fergus,

Normally you put with these messages the sentence.

Please do you want to send a picture from you in a zip file so I can
evaluate it better?

:-)))))))))))))))))

Sorry for this Sthephany, normally I don't like to threat woman in an other
way than man,

and don't blame Fergus, he is so done to help people in the way he thinks is
right.

(And we have almost the same thoughts) that he seems to be a little bit
furious.

And to be seriously:

Fergus I think we all want to help, Armin, Herfried, you, the others and me.

Please keep in mind that people, for whom English is not their native
language, sometimes use the wrong word because they think it looks like
English. I did it with argumenting (while I know what arguments mean in
English but forgot it), you did it with geblauten.

Have fun all.

Herfried, Armin and Fergus,
When I see this thread, I can only make one conclusion for myself.
We all want to do it right and we do it wrong.

My sugestions are:
Cor, Herfried, Armin and all Others,
(And that is all Fergus wants I think).
Is it possible to wait with OT's that are discussable if it is an OT 12
hours (to overcome the timezones).
OT's are for me by instance the sure VB6, C#, JScript, Office, HTML, old
ASP, ADO 2.<7 question, but when you have doubts please wait.
(When I am wrong in that please give comments)

Fergus, Cor and all Others,
Can we have the dicipline when it is real an OT question, not to answer it
directly or only if it can be done with one sentence?

By the way the answer from Herfried on this question was in my opinion not
an OT the only word that was missing was
And not to make this too long the rest is written in my other answer to
Fergus in the thread On being an assister II

Cor.

The OP wants a _quick_ response. Why waiting for 12 hours? If the OP
reads the hint telling him to turn to an other ng, he can find a
solution in shorter time.

Hi Armin

|| As you asked me whether I want to be higher on

What made you think that ? All I did was ask you a question. If I ask
whether you are hungry am I saying that <I> am hungry?

This one could go on and on.. :-)

"Eh? Come again?" means "I don't understand - could you repeat with
different words?"

Fergus

Why is posting with a realname a despotic standard?!

Armin,
Not so many differences, but it's anybody's choise.
By the way, Cor is my realname.
my familyname is Ligthert
But when I meet someone I just say Cor
Cor

Herfried,
I was trying to tell that there are mentality differences between people
from different countries and why.
I think it is not right to put your own standards to someone else.
When it is a habbit in the German newsgroup, for me that is no problem, it
is a closed group of countries which use that language.
(I do not know how it is with the Belgian, Swiss, Italian and Danish German
language part about this subject).
But i failed in my explanation.

It are the words "turn to an" Armin did use this too in a message an half an
hour ago.
Just change it in "look in an" and we totaly agree.

Forget it. Was not important.

You misunderstood me. I never wanted to tell everyone to use a realname
_here_.

Herfried,
This one I find very nice.

This is a VB.NET language group. Notice that you will have a better
chance to get an answer if you post to the ADO.NET newsgroup in future:

I do not know if it is correct English, but that will Fergus tell us I
think.
It is short and direct. I got it from your post,
:-)
Cor

Herfried,
H happenly we can argue about little things, so in the main things we all
agree.
