Winsock Corrupt

I have been trying for 3 days to fix a corrupt Winsock files(s
XP Pro, IPConfig / renew give me the ...not a socket error..
I have tried some stuff from cexx.org with no luck
I have unistalled my Ethernet card, no jo
Ready to do a reinstall of XP Pro
I would rather not do this however, any one have any ideas on how to get my
PC back and running on the Internet

I have found two MS Knowledge Base articles that descirbe what I need to do to hopefully reconnect to the Internet throught my Cable modem
